BY MANUEL OATS GREENWAY The 'United church service was well attended on Sunday when the Rev. Mervyn Love, Wyoming was guest minister. Many former Students of the. Parkhill High School came to the service 'and enjoyed a time of social fellowship following. Among those attending and visiting -with their family or friends over the weekend were; Mrs. Erma MacGregor, Toronto; Keith Walper, Montreal; Mr. and Mrs. Gary Gibson, Oshawa; Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Brophey, Chatham; Viola Curts, London; Mr. and Mrs. "Tip" Fraser, London; and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Ratz, Creditors, The May meeting of the U.C.W. was held in Parkhill at the home of Mrs. Alice Hartle. Fourteen members answered the roll call by telling where they would like to go this spring. The worship was taken by Shirley Eagleson and Anne Walper. They chose for their theme "Home" - a Magic Word. The poem "A tribute to Mother" was read and the scripture was 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13. Suitable hymns "Tell me the stories of Jesus" and "Love Divine, all Love Excelling" were sung. Some interesting facts were g read about Japan. Prayer closed this part of the meeting. The president, Iva Lagerwerf read a poem on "Homes". It was reported that new carpet had been purchased for the washrooms and also 100 sterilite serving trays for lunches. Plans were made for the strawberry festival in June. A tasty lunch was served by Lillian Uleris and Iva Lagerwerf, assisted by the hostess. "People over here are more friendly and more polite toward each other than in Europe, especially the younger people." This, is the, opinion of Mrs. Anke Wessels, Holland, who is in Canada for three weeks, visiting her cousin, Mrs. Graham Eagleson, and other relatives here. "When I crossed the ocean, I had just a little idea about Canada. Of course, I saw some programs on television about Canada, but it is quite dif- ferent than Holland - dif- ferent farms, birds, flowers, and even different people. These were the first things I noticed when I arrived here. I came to visit my unknown relatives, but I am also enjoying very much seeing a little of Canada, like the capital city of Ottawa and on the weekend with her parents Willis and Ella Desjardine, and brother Ray. Visitors during the weekend with Alice and Arnold Keller were Roy and Mark Gibson, Dave and Jeffrey of Crediton, and Jack, Bev Sherri-Lyn and Steven Keller, Niagara Falls. On Thursday evening a farewell party Was held at' the Corbett CoMmunity Centre for Mr. and Mrs. Norman Greenwood who leaveon Mondays returned to the Burford area after living here for nineteen years. Mrs. Mary Noser, Dale Greenwood and Cliff Cronkite were winners of the forty, or more people en- joying the game of euchre. The honored couple were presented with a mirror and a purse of money. The well wishes of the entire com- munity go with them. Several members of Grace Anglican Church attended the funeral service, Tuesday for the late. Rev. Murray Brooks, Pt. Franks, former associate rector of the Thedford Parish. Mrs. Morley Hodgins) Heather and Todd attended the Sunday festivities of the 125th anniversary of the Kitchener-Waterloo Colle- giate. Mrs. Hodgins, a for- mer student of the school reports that over 5,000 people attnded the program held in the Kitchener arena. A pioneer of the school was the late William Lyon MacKenzie King, Prime Minister of Canada. Of interest to this com- munity is the birth on Thursday of Jason David, to Dave and Marilyn Ferguson, Loridon, first grandchild for Ross and Iva (Curts) Scafe. Mrs. Ed Bloomfield visited on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Young, Lucan. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Smitheri and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Smithers were dinner guests in London on Sunday, with Mr. and Mrs. Carman Smithers. Dawsqn Woodburn at- tended the sessions of the London Conference United Church held in Wesley-Knox Church, London, last week.
