Grads coming from coast to coast
for June 21 homecoming at schoo l
There's a great deal of
interest being shown in the
homecoming for former
students and staff at South
Huron District High School
according to Doug Ellison,
staff advisor to this year's
graduating class members
who are organizing the
event,
He said this week that
word has already been
received from graduates
planning to return for the
June 21 reunion from as far
away as Vancouver and
Newfoundland.
However, he asked that
area residents continue their
efforts to advise as many
graduates and former staff
as possible about the
homecoming and to forward
them a copy of the detailed
program contained
elsewhere in this issue.
The students are com-
piling a special display of
pictures and information
about school life from 1905
and after and would ap-
precrite any contributions. A
special homecoming insert
will be published in the T-A
prior to the event and
material is required for that
as well.
Ellison urged people to get
their tickets for the special
attractions as soon as
possible to avoid disap-
pointment and also to help
the organizers finalize plans
for the barbecue and dance.
While special efforts are
being made to contact for-
mer student athletes to
participate in the oldtimers'
basketball, soccer and field
hockey events, anyone can
join the fun by contacting the
school.
Former coaches Glen
Mickle and Lauretta Seigner
will be back to coach the
teams.
The open house starts at
12:00 noon following the
pancake breakfast at the fire
hall and all those returning
will be asked to register as
early as possible so the
awards can be determined
for the people coming the
farthest distance,
Grads bringing children
can take their offspring to
the gym to watch Walt
Disney movies while the
adults enjoy reminiscing,
Current students will have
several displays depicting
school life over the past 75
years as well as geography,
technical and art displays
from their classes this year,
The grade 12 and 13
students will have a dance
demonstration to depict the
various steps that have been
popular at school dances
through the years, ranging
from waltzes to disco, The
grade 10 girls are putting on
a jazz dance demonstration
about life at SHDHS.
Chris Mittleholtz is in
charge of two musical
presentations to include the
popular Main St. Jug Band,
past and present school
musicians and teachers. If
grads have cohorts they
would like to hear perform
again, they should notify the
school. Another musical
highlight will be a presen-
tation of the theatre arts
group who are performing
portions of Cabaret.
A chicken barbecue will be
held at the rec centre
starting at 4:30 and people
are reminded to get tickets
early as only 100 will be
offered on a first come basis
on June 21.
A dance completes the
evening at the rec centre and
at least two bands will be
performing for dancing on
the arena surface. If the
demand warrants, another
band will be engaged to play
in the rec centre auditorium.
Former student council
presidents and queens will
be introduced at the dance as
well as the people travelling
the farthest distance and the
earliest graduates in at-
tendance.

an interest in each in-
dividual. In any event Matt
will be heartening (en-
couraging). Matt has an
