FREE COMING EVENTS FOR FARM TOPICS-MAIL TO T-A, BOX 850, EXETER Belgian Show Horses Driving a four or six horse hitch of Belgian show horses at the Royal Winter Fair or Canadian National Exhibition is the dream of one of the top showman in this part of Western Ontario. For Bob Tindall, RR 1, Centralia, who has been showing Belgians at area fairs and shows since 1972, competing at one of the two, Toronto 'shows would be "tops" His greatest thrill to date was in 1975 when his team of Belgians led the London Santa Claus parade and parade marshal Tommy Hunter rode in the front seat with him. Continuing Tindall said, "I would just love to drive into the ring at the Royal or CNE. It would be a great thrill. It's great when the harness jingles and the band strikes up as the teams come through the arches." The Biddulph township farmer who operates a dairy farm uses his Belgian horses on a daily basis during the winter months when they are not on the fair circuit. He added, "I use them every day for drawing manure and in cutting and hauling wood. I can use any combination of the four geldings I now have and it doesn't matter on which side I hitch them up." The cost of outfitting a team for show purposes is growing very expensive. Tindall said, "I bought my show harness in 1973 for $2,000. Now it would be about $4,800. I would guess we are talking about $20,000 in value when I take my teams into the show ring." The Tindall Belgian stock is now down to four geldings and a mare. He continued, "It's getting hard to keep them around, especially good ones. I had one foal born on February 11 and it has already been sold. As soon as people heard it was born there was a steady stream of cars coming up the lane. Tindali recently sold two mares to the Ottawa area and bought a gelding from• the same district shortly afterwards. "I heard about the gelding being for sale so my wife and I caught a plane in London at 8 a.m. one Please turn to page 5A FREE COMBIG EVENTS FOR FARM TOPICS-MAIL TO T-A, BOX 850, EXETER DON'T FORGET TO ENTER OUR CONTEST-SEE TOP CORNER OF THIS PAGE fi
