the installation and initiation

By October 29, our first
general meeting, we were
all ready to get to work, sent
parcels to local boys serving
in the forces in Korea.
By the end of that week
the kitchen would be ready
with enough dishes to serve
250 people; they Were
purchased by the Legion
Branch from a hotel in
Goderich. We also answered
the roll call at our
November meeting with a
gift for our kitchen. We sent
cigarettes to Westminster
Hospital and prepared a
social evening for Legion
members and their wives for
the end of December.
Some of the various pro-
jects the first year were,
purchasing wool gloves for
our local firemen, canvass
for Red Cross, $25.00 to
Provincial Scholarship fund,
two Birthday parcels a
month to Westminster
Hospital veterans, started
our South Huron Hospital
fund with $200,00, purchased
drapes for the Legion Hall,
provided drivers for the Girl
Guides to take swimming at
the Y.M.C.A. in Stratford.
Ways of raising money,
canteen, check room, having
draws on such things as
afghans, quilts, blankets,
cushions, dolls, cedar
chests, just anything anyone
suggested or had to offer,
also bake sales and ban-
quets.
The Ladies Auxiliaries
first interest has always
been' for the benefit of the
Legion Branch. We have
worked together to make our
Legion building what it is to-
day, equiping the kitchen
with all the conveniences
necessary to make our
catering to banquets as easy
as possible.
Serving meals is our main
means of raising money to
assist the Legion Branch
financially with their
mortgage, purchasing of the
packing lot and renovations
to the hall.
The Auxiliary has their
own room in the Legion
building which they have
decorated and furnished to
their own liking.
In November the Auxiliary
takes part in the Remem-
brance Day parade and
church service and caters to
the Remembrance Day
banquet.
The Legion and Auxiliary
also hold a joint installation
of Officers in June each .
year.
Our donations to the
Branch in the past 29 years,
exclUding the equipment for
the kitchen and dishwasher,
was $24,582.00. They also
purchased paint and drapes
for -the auditorium and the
kilts for the former Legion
Pipe Band.
The-s-eCond interest 'is the
veterans in Westminster
Hospital. We send four birth-
day parcels a month and
twice a yeai^ the Auxiliary
members go to the hospital
to put on a bingo for the
patients and join in with
them. Along with the money
for the bingo prizes we take
cigarettes, two bushels of
apples and a case of bananas
which are distributed among
the patients who cannot at-
tend the bingo.
The . Auxiliary have
purchased five television
sets for the various wards
and paid our share towards
one donated by the Zone,
purchased- drapes for the
women's ward at West-
minster and donated records
and cash for their pub.
Some of our members
have motored to the hospital
-to help wrap Christmas gifts
and send a cash donation to
purchase treats for the vets
at Christmas.
Our next interest is our
service to the community.
We donated to South Huron
Hospital, furnished a room
in the nurses residence,
purchased an x-ray, filing
cabinet and a television set
for South Huron Hospital.
In 1960 we became spon-
sors of the Girl Guides,

the Scout Hall, donated to
the Exeter Swimming Pool
and the gas healer for the
pool.
In 1968 the Auxiliary spon-
sored the pee wee all-star
hockey team, outfitting
them with sweaters, socks
and paid someentree fees.
In 1970 the team become
champions at which time we
bought each boy a jacket. In
1972 they- became All-
Ontario champions and on
their arrival back to Exeter
some of our members
gathered together a lunch to
help them celebrate with a
banquet served at a later
date in their honour.
In 1977 they were the
recipients , of several
trophies so we once again
honoured them with a ban-
quet and a presentation. We
are proud to have been spon-
sors of the pee wee hockey
team for the past 12 years.

$300.00 bursary to the On-
tario Provincial Scholarship

In 1963 we adopted a
Korean child and later
donated yearly to the
Canada Save the Child Fund,
donated to the Mentally
Retarded Association work
shop, held a shower for the
United Church home for
mentally retarded and in-
stalled a C.B. radio in the
Arc Industries bus.
In 1971 and. 1974 we played
host to the Senior Citizens
with a dinner and entertain-
ment, served the Seniors
lunch once yearly at their
meetings, and purchased a
bingo_ machine for the
residents of the Helen Jer-

Hospital, Navy League. In
March we hold a penny sale
with the proceeds going to
Bunny Bundle.
We could go on talking
about the great things we
have done and how hard we
have worked but it has not
been all work and no play.
We have had our good
times too, taking bus trips to
Niagara—Falls, Toronto,
