organizations who worked so
hard to make it a success.
The Legion Hall was opqn
during the week of activities,
and meals were provided for
the many out-of-town
visitors during the day time,
and a number of dances were
held in the evening, For the
band; this may have been
one of their last major ap-
pearances.
As the year progressed the
2923 Huron- Middlesex
Cadet Corps was formed
with its Headquarters at
Huron Park, and the branch
in co-operation with the
Lucan Legion began to
sponsor them. While the
Corps' activities are not
branch history, it may be of
interest to note what the
funds help to provide, and
how important they are. In
the words of a former
Commanding Officer,` "This
is all very worthwhile
training for the young boys
and girls between the ages of
13 and 19, and is only made
available through the
generosity of the Legion."
Affiliated with The Royal
Canadian Regiment,
Canada's oldest regular
force unit, the Corps was
formed in September 1973
with a strength of ap-
proximately 40 cadets, a
strength which has been
maintained throughout the
years. Parades are held on
weekly basis, and a two and
six week training course is
held each summer at Camp
Ipperwash.
, This training course is an
extensive one, and provides
the following. A course in
First Aid, Watermanship,
Cross Country Skiing, Field
Craft, map rending and first
aid exReriences. Cadets are
given instruction in the
handling of the .22 and 7.62
m.m, rifle, and in October of
each year, a team of four
cadets compete for honours
in the Brigadier Murdock
Trophy Shoot. The out-
standing cadet or cadets,
may go to such bases as,
Canadian Forces Base,
Borden, Banff, Valcartier,
and Lahr, Germany, for
specialization courses, •
Among the courses are
parachute training courses
which enables the successful
student to obtain his or her
Parachute Wing, and a
special course in leadership.
Two of its former C.O.'s are
regular members of the
branch, and the present
C.O., a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary,
In the field of sport the
Town of Exeter has never
been lacking in interest and
leadership, and has never
had to take a back seat to
anyone. Over the year many
men and women have
devoted long hours of
training and encouragement -
with teams of their choice,
and in doing so have helped
to mould the character of the
player and instill a deter-
mination to succeed.
While pride is taken in
achievement, the im-
portance lies not in just
winning, but how the game
was played, and one must
suffer defeat to appreciate
victory.
Those who have been
actively engaged with
bantam hockey must be
proud of team records. In
1964-65 and 1968-69, teams
