'STEAM CLEANING Folks around town
The Beaconaires club met
last Monday evening at the
Church of God for a carry-in
supper with 21 in attendance.
President, Mrs. Della
Simpson presided for the
meeting, opening with
hymns and prayer.
The group sang "Happy
Birthday" to three members
who observed April bir-
thdays.
Guest speaker was Rev.
John Campbell, speaking on
scripture from Deuteronomy
32, verses 7-12. He spoke of
Moses being a keen observer
of nature, how eagles stir up
their nest, and God wants to
stir us up and move out into
the world. God acts as an,
eagle over his people and His
wing will bring us help at
anytime. Nest meeting will
be May 5 and the group plans
• to go bowling.

Macramarionettes held at
the Town hall in Grand Bend
with all members present.

telling why the design chosen
from a member's collection
was her favourite.
The club members filled in
a "Decorating Know-how."
quiz, then played a game
called "Decorator's
Delemma." In this game

skit for Achievement. Day.
• 'A..
After working at this
newspaper for one whole
year (that's right, today
marks my first an-
niversary), you'd think I
would have developed a
knack for approaching
people to take their picture.
I thought that I had come
up with a line for every
camera shy person out there,
Most people, although some
would never admit it, do like
having their photograph in
the newspaper. Others even
go so far, as to specify that
they want it on front page,
But there are some who
take convincing, when you
get out the camera, And I
thought I could talk anybody
into having their picture
taken, until the other day.
I spied a large group of
older gentlemen on the
beach in Grand Bend
strolling up and down
carrying their metal
detectors. I thought this
would make an interesting
picture for the Grand Bend
page, especially if they were
local folks. So I walked
towards them, filling my
shoes with sand.
I didn't get a very warm
welcome„I identified myself,
and asked them where they
were from. Out of town, was
the terse reply. Then I asked
if I could take their picture
for the paper. No, I was
clearly told. I tried a big
smile and a little persuasion.
No, they said, there are
enough people out there with
metal detectors now, and we
don't need to advertise the
fact that you can use them on
Grand Bend's beach,
Now I'm not sure, but I
thinkmost people know that
there's a beach at Grand
Bend. And a lot of those
people already own metal
detectors. Many of them
have already combed the
beach in their hunts.
Anyway, this group of men
wouldn't let me take their
picture. No way, It sort of
makes you wonder what they
were finding.
On the other hand, I
always have willing subjects
when I go to Grand Bend
nursery school. Even
teachers Miss Cathy and
Miss Sharon have pleasant
smiles when I drop in.
It's always interesting to
see the children's reaction to
the camera. You spot them
doing something really cute.
It would make a great candid
shot.
But if they happen to see
the camera as you approach,
a sudden change will occur.
It's a conditioning, just like
Pavlov's dogs. Upon seeing
the camera, the child will
suddenly stand rigidly at
attention, his little fists
clenched at his side. A huge
phony smile will be pasted
across his mouth. And he will
stare blankly at the camera.
So parents, next time you
get out the camera, please
don't say to the kids "Stand
up straight, smile big, and
look at the camera." Try
some candid shots.
Can you believe that I've
survived a whole year of
attending Grand Bend
council meetings? Even with
perfect attendance, I still
have a long way to go to
catch up with Bob Sharen.
Everyone should go to a
council meeting some time.
It's really not a three ring
circus, you know (There are
four council members, plus
the reeve and clerk. That
makes six.)
Actually the meetings are
well run and usually very
interesting. In an entire year
of attending two meetings a
month, I've never fallen
asleep, and some of those
meetings run rather late.
Anyway, drop in some
Monday evening. Don't wait
until you have a complaint.
It must be rather depressing
for council members to only
see the taxpayers when they
have something to gripe
about.
Mary and John Neave, of
74 Ontario Street, wish to
announce they will be
leaving Grand Bend to take
up residence in Hamilton
Ontario, on April 29, and
wish to thank members of

operation and help over the
last three years.

ticles are to be landed in on

Cancer canvass
With only four out of 20
canvassers reporting, the
new Grand Bend unit of the
Cancer Society has already
raised nearly $700, according
to canvass convener Hazel
Blewett. The door-to-door
canvassers are just finishing
a blitz on the area.
Mrs. Blewett says that $292
was raised in the sales of
fresh daffodils. A generous
donation was received in
memory of Dorothy
Hamilton, who recently
passed away. Money was
collected by her friends and
neighbours at Grand Cove
Estates.

Rabbits
Continued from page 12A
Specialty meat stores are
probably one of the best for
Ontario rabbit, as well as
some supermarkets. If your
butcher doesn't carry
Ontario rabbit regularly, ask
him to order it for you, but ,
give him a week's notice. If •
you wish, he will probably
cut it into serving pieces for
you, too.
Rabbit meat can be
roasted, broiled, braised,
barbecued or fried. For „
example, to roast a whole
rabbit, stuff it with your
favourite stuffing (about 2
cups per rabbit), lay bacon
strips over itand place it on a
rack in a roasting pan. Cook
at 180 degrees celcius (350 ',
degrees Fahrenheit) for 25
minutes per pound.
For that special dinner
you're planning, choose
Ontario rabbit. You and your
family and guests will be 4 *
glad you did,
