Parents are invited to come to the school for the ac- tivities. weaving, spinning, quilling, quilting, chair caning, basket weaving, and making corn husk dolls. The museum hopes to hold such events as a log sawing competition. They also plan to have refreshments" on sale. The staff hopes to raise money for the museum during the day. In other business, the committee decided to' donate $200 plus labour and assistance towards the fireworks display being organized by the"ChEirriber of Commerce. The fireworks are to be held on June 29, weather permitting. Several members at the meeting said they were pleased with the turnout at last year's fireworks display, despite poor weather. The committee also had a discussion on possible events for Burgerfest. Combining the engine show with the craft display should provide something of interest to everyone, Tremain says. In the engine display, there should be some antique tractors, as well as old gas engines used to power such things as buzz saws, washing machines, pumps and mills. This club will be devoted to helping young people and children in the area, and all funds raised by the club will be kept in the community. President Shane Burley says that activities for children and youth are limited in the Grand Bend area. Among the new group's plans are the organization of minor hockey and baseball teams. At the Sunday evening church of God service the ladies of the church were in charge. A slide presentation on India was shown and enjoyed very much. The children and youth groups held their regular weekly meeting Friday evening at Church of God. Church of God ladies held their regular month,ly meeting, Thursday evening at the church, with 18 in attendance. A delegation from the Grand Bend Soccer Club were granted part, of their requests at a meeting of the rec committee last week. Tom Vlemmix and Ed Mommersteeg asked that the rec committee put up a portable toilet near the soccer field and the com- mittee agreed. A second request for funds is being considered. Rec committee members Harold Green and' Judy Uniac asked that the soccer club submit a —financial ' statement from lastyear and a budget on what they expect to need this year. After reviewing the soccer club's finances, the committee will decide on a possible grant. Besides the portable toilet at the soccer field the rec committee decided to have two others at the playground and the parkette behind the municipal offices. The toilets Plans are well underway for antique engine and pioneer craft festival at Lambton , Heritage Museum, according to curator Bob Tremain. The museum, located about five miles south of Grand Bend on highway 21 has set aside Sunday, May 25 for the festival. Tremain says he hopes to make it a family day at the museum. Activities will run from noon until 5:00 p.m. Because its in advance of the heavy tourist season, A group of Grand Bend area men met last Thursday night to form the area's first Optimist Club. About 38 members came to the Legion Hall in Grand Bend for the organizational meeting. Paul Gorman of the Optimists International of Pittsburgh presented the new group with a charter. Watford Optimist club is sponsoring the new Grand Bend group. Dave Cowley, a lieutenant-governor from Watford, helped organize the local club. A minimum of 35 interested men was required to start the group. President of the new club is Shane 'Burley of R.R. 2, Grand Bend. Other members of the executive are secretary-treasurer - John Griffiths; chairman Tim Connolly; fellowship chairman - Joe Green; publicity chairman - Stan Pachlarz; finance chairman Frank Backx; and program chairman - Don Labelle.
