The April meetong of the
General U.C.W. was held in
the church basement on
April 8th. Mrs. Wilfred
Garrett presided and opened
the meeting with prayer and
a hymn followed by the
business, and reports.

requested to bring a small
gift for the Cancer cupboard
at Thameswood Hall London
to the next meeting. Susan
Gricken who was a delegate
to the Five Oaks Conference
gave an informative report
of her attendance there.
Unit 3 reported that they
would again be responsible
for the arrangements for the
bazaar, which will be held
October 18. Unit 4 said that
they had five quilts in the
making, and will have a bake
sale on Fun Day in July.
Mrs. Elwood Morden
presented a very interesting
report on the Middlesex
Presbyterial meeting; held
in the Metropolitan United
Church London, the theme
was "The Power of the
stored up Word". Jack
Burghardt of T.V. fame was
the guest speaker, and said
that the greatest power of
the stored up word was the
Bible.
Unit 4 was responsible for
the program, with the theme
Easter and president Mrs.
Cliff Hardie opened with the
scripture followed by a
reading, "One solitary Life".
Mrs. Hardie introduced
the guest speaker Mrs.
Truman Lowes of Toronto, a
former missionary to Japan
and teacher of health to
Japanese sehbol
students in Tokyo. Mrs.
Lowes talked about the
customs, and industries of
Japan, explaining that the
city of .Tokyo was very
progressive, and that
Japanese had copied a lot of
western customs, with dress,
and the way they built their
homes. The speaker
illustrated her talk with
slides, and modelled a
kimona,
Following a question
period refreshments were
served by unit 4,
C.G.I.T. news
Margaret McGuffin opened
the meeting with prayer.
After the opening exercises
led by Bonnie Harloff, and a
discussion of the week's
business.

"Doubts" based on the Bible
story of Thomas, the
Disciple who was un-
prepared to believe the story
of Jesus' Resurrection until
he personally was able to
examine the wounds of
Jesus.
The members then broke
into pairs for a Bible study,
showing how people take on
dispositions of animals.
Their findings were
presented along with prayer,
taken from a verse in the
Bible. Christine Jones closed
the meeting.
Church news •
At the United Church Rev.
Elwood Morden conducted
the morning worship and
officiated at the Sacrament
of Holy Communion. Taking
the theme for his sermon
"Behold the Man". These
were Pilate's words when he
presented Jesus after His
trial, to the people.
This was after Jesus had
,been ridiculed, crowned with
thorns, scourged, and his
garments torn. Think about
these words the minister
said, and what they meant to
John "Behold the Man". To
John, He was a Man of God
and the Hope of the World,
and as we celebrate Me
Sacrament of Holy Corn-
munion the bread and wine,
the body and blood of Jesus
Christ it marks the
fulfillment of all our hopes.
Mrs. Gordon McRobert
and Mrs. Robert Scott were
bership • of the church by
profession of faith and Mr.
and Mrs. Russell Fox, Mr.
Robert Scott and Mrs. Paul
Wallis by transfer of
membership.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church, Dr. Walter Creery of
Kirkton Was in charge of the
service of morning prayer.
Dr. Creery said, after the
resurrection and the ap-
pearing of Jesus Christ to the
Apostles, and the
significance and reality that
He overcame death, so that
we may live. He compared
the difference between the
raising of Lazarus and
Jesus, which we can only
trace back to the power -of
God.
At the Granton Com-
munity Church, Rev. Glen
Fretz of London, taught on
the Christian Goals from
Phil 2:4-18. From this
passage we learn that as
Christians we need to set
goals unless we will be
caught up in the World's
system of perverse thinking.
Also we have been given the
responsibility of being
Lighthouses to guide others
to the "Pure Light", Jesus
Christ. Thirdly we should set
Christian goals because
Jesus will ask each Christian
to give an account of how
we've lived our lives on the
Judgement Day.
