AILSA CRAIG
"The best cure for skin
cancer is prevention",
stressed dermatologist
Donna Wexler at a meeting
last Thursday evening. "If
you must be out in the sun
use sun screens. And these
should be applied at least-an
hour prior to exposure to the
sun".
Speaking to an audience at
the Parkhill West Williams
Public School Dr. Wexler
carefully outlined
precautions to take to help
avoid skin cancer.
:"If you note any changes
whatever in your skin such
as the colour, bleeding,. or
the size of any marks on your
skin, have it checked im-
mediately by your doctor",
she warned.
To help the audience
become more familar with
the most common skin
cancers, Dr. Wexler first
gave a slide presentation
which showed various skin
disorders, cancerous and
benign.
An brisk question period
followed with many concerns
being brought forth and
information shared. Again
and again Dr. Wexler
stressed the need for care
when out in the sun.
"A tan may look healthy",
she cautioned "but it also
adds greatly to the aging,
proces8 and can easily
become dangerous". She
warned that while it may not
be the most fashionable it is
easier to keep as much of the
body lightly covered as
possible if it is necessary to
be out in the intense sunlight.
She suggested applying
while still allowing a lighter
tan.
The meeting was spon-
sored by the Parkhill-Ailsa
Craig Cancer Unit.
Education Committee
Chairman, Jill Waters, noted
that this was the 4th year an
open meeting had been held
to help the public become
more aware of cancer
related diseases, and it is
hoped that it can become an
annual fight against cancer.
President Ruth Arnel
announced the need for
volunteer drivers from the
area to drive cancer patient
to London for treatments. If
anyone can assist in this
program and can commit
themselves to being
available they are asked to
contact Doris Robbins, 294-
0063 . Help is urgently
needed.

Choirs join
for concert
By JOY SCHIFELE
Sunday evening the
Parkhill United Church was
filled as the children's choirs
from the Parkhill United
Church and Nairn Mennonite
Church joined forces to
present a spring concert.
Under the direcion of
Betsy Wall-Barkman the
Parkhill choir sang several
numbers which they had
learned throughout the year.
Ably taking the first part of
the program they concluded
their section with the
congregation heartily joining
in the chorus of Arise Come
Sing In The Morning.
The second part of the
concert was taken by the
Nairn Mennonite Children's
Choir, led by Gail Wall. The
audience warmly responded
to the group of fifteen voices
as they joined together in
excellent harmony.
To climax the evening the
two choirs united to present
"Get On Board Children" -
or What do you do on a rainy
day in an ark? The en-
thusiasm and message of the
total 41 voices kept the
congregation humming bits
and pieces long after the
concert was concluded.
Soloists included Lora Lyn
Smith, Jeff Greenwood,
Lauri Greenwood, Blakie
Smith, Marta Brunner, Lisa
Leslie and Richard Engels.
Instrumentalists were
drummer Jerry Quick, Bass
guitar Norma Quick,
Pianists Susan Smith and
Sharon DeVree.

The Ontario Federation of

ministry of health and other
appropriate bodies to ensure
the province's doctors know

A resolution, approved by
Huron Federation of
Agriculture members at
their monthly meeting
Thursday at. Grey Central
School, Ethel, stated, "there
seems to be a lack of ade-
quate information available
to local doctors regarding
treatments and antidotes for
many farm chemicals,"
The resolution, submitted
by the East Wawanosb
