The Exeter area fire board has requested consideration by Exeter council for the ad- dition of another bay to the south of the fire hall to provide adequate training areas and storage space for vehicles and equipment. The board. made up of representatives from Ex- eter, Usborne. Stephen and 'Hay, plans to call tenders next year for the 1982 delivery of a new fire pumper and the present hall is inadequate to house the new truck. It was also, explained that the facility was not large ` enough to permit training sessions for the 24-member brigade and they currently use the works department building on Nelson Street. The request for 'the addi- tion was discussed recently by the local property and parks committee and chair- man Lossy Fuller Tuesday night recommended that council write the other three contributing municipalities to see if they will contribute financially to the addition, While the four, municipalities are joint owners of the equipment, Exeter is sole owner of the building, but Mrs. Fuller suggested that the other three members should con- tribute to the capital cost of the addition. Mayor Derry Boyle noted that the facility houses the tank truck which is used ex- clusively for rural fires and there would be room in the building for the new pumper if the town did not have to provide space for the tank truck. He indicated that representatives of the other three municipalitieS had not shown any interest in buying into the present facility, but suggested there may be some support for assisting with the addition. A sagging floor in the facility is also to be repaired at the time of the addition and area board members have agreed that this should be considered as maintenance in which all will contribute an their respective percentage basis. A discussion was also held regarding the donation of the 1944 fire truck to the Huron County museum. The curator has been invited to inspect the truck to see if he is interested in adding it to the county collection, It was decided to delay any decision about donating the truck until the curator has indicated whether he is interested in the vehicle. Council learned that Chief Gary Middleton and fireman Peter McFalls would be attending an arson school at the Aylmer Police College in June. Exeter Police Constable George Robertson will also attend the course. Some farmers, however, prefer to incorporate their herbicides, and Lasso fits the bill. "Shallow" is the key word. Lasso should be shallowly incorpo- rated, prior to planting corn or soybeans. First, broadcast Lasso; then thoroughly incorporate it into the top two inches of To make sure the incorporation is Shallow, set your disc or cultivator to work the soil to a maximum depth of four inches. Shallow incorporation of Lasso plus atrazine suppresses yellow nutsedge in corn. To suppress yellow nutsedge for six to eight weeks, shallowly incorporate Lasso plus atrazine (mixed at new labelled rates) before planting, Suppressing yellow nutsedge with Lasso plus atrazine gives your corn the chance to become established without nutsedge competition that can hurt your yield. Whether you surface apply or shallowly incorporate, you get outstanding grass control with Lasso. Lasso consistently controls annual grasses in corn and soybeans. With excellent crop safety.
