The brighter the colours
and the holder the prints, the
better you'll be dressed this
spring, That was the
message at a fashion show
last Wednesday put on by the
guild of Huron country
Playhouse. The show was
held at the Coach House,
about 10 miles south of
Grand Bend on highway 21,
A smorgasbord luncheon
was served, and new styles
were shown throughout the
afternoon.
Anita's of Exeter provided
clothing and models for the
show, Owner Anita Swart-
man with the help of her
husband Bob Swartman
gave the commentary on the
fashions. Models were Ann
Baynham, Kellie Swartman,
Leslie Swartman, Molly
Burke, Amelia Dearing,
Mary Fisher and Barb
Grant. Showing some men's
formal wear were
Christopher Swartman and
Brian Brooks,
Flowers were provided by
Jo-Anne Dinney of Country
Flowers, Exeter, and hair
and make-up were looked
after by Designer Unisex,
Grand Bend,
According to Anita, the
colours this spring are
"bright, bright, bright". Hot
pink, fuscia, electric blue,
shocking purple, and bright
jade were featured in many
of the dresses, Prints are big
and very bold. The Hawaiian
print is being used in both
sporty and dressy clothes.
Featured in the wild
Hawaiian prints are large
palm trees, orchids, and
ferns.
Also shown were bold
prints .of parrots, huge
goldfish or bright water-
melons. Slim skirts and high
front splits mark the styles.
for 198Q.
Fabrics this spring are
fresh cottons or linens, Anita
says that today's blends
don't crumple as much as
the cottons and linens of a
few years ago. Velour is still
very popular for both casual
and dress wear, and can be
worn in the bright spring
colours.
Many of the styles shown
at last week's show were
original creations by new
Canadian designers. Marilyn
Brooks and Ches Pritchard
fashions were shown in
everything from off the
shoulder dresses to clam
diggers.
