uwee nue genies giving the
audience an idea of what
true table tennis is all
about. Mackison runs these/
clinics in schools all over
Western Ontario and has
found interest in table tennis
to be booming. At these
clinics he tries to develop
youngsters natural ability to
a point where they have
mastered all aspects of the
game.
He usually finds students
eager to learn and willing to
work hard. He feels a total
commitment to the game is
a must if one is to become a
good player.
Since table tennis is rather
new in North America as a
competitive sport Canada
usually finds itself faring
rather poorly against the
Asiatic countries, where the
game is a national sport.
However, Mackison feels
that with table tennis
becoming increasingly
popular in Canada the time
may not be too far off when
Canadians will be able to
compete sucessfully against
world class competition.
Judging by the enthusiasm,
vitality and spirit displayed
by Parsons and Mackison,
throughout their clinic,,table
tennis may soon be promoted

Gymnasts
This past Thursday, three
hundred students flocked to
the gymnasium here at
, South Huron to see a display
by Mrs. Unich and her team
of shapely gymnasts. For
many, it was the first chance
to see the team perform,
other than brief glances, in
the gymnasium door duping
the team's practices,
Nevertheless, the audience
seemed to appreciate the
show; most persons were on
the edge of their seats during
the shoik and the gymnasium
exploded with applause at
the conclusion of each
routine.
The girls performed on
three pieces of apparatus -
the beam, the uneven bars
and the floor. The vault was
excluded because of time
limits on the show. In con-
clusion the team did a
routine choreographed to
Babe, a song by Styx.

By PHIL DE HAAN
Table tennis, more
commonly known as ping
pong, has come a long way
since its invention as a
leisure time activity, played
for fun and relaxation.
Although the Asiatic
countries have played table
tennis competitively for
many years, only recently
has the game been regarded
as a serious sport here in
Canada.
Canada is now becoming
more actively involved in
world class competition and
will participate, this year in
the Norwich Union Grand
Prix, a series of events
previously open only to top
European playeis.
The skill, quickness and
general athletic ability of
table tennis players was
recently demonstrated at
South Huron, when two
excellent players, Bryan
Mackison and Randy Par-
sons gave a mini-clinic on
table tennis basics. •
The two demonstrated the
techniques involved 'in
various shots and played
