Showing team spon- sor Jim Pfaff and team members Brian Hodgins, Lloyd, Mothers and Larry Haugh where Lake Placid is situated are two pickups for the tourney Ken Needham of Ilderton and Brian Haskett of Lucan. .T-A photo Pfaff Electric off to Lake Placid If the first game of the South Huron Hockey League ;final between the Zurich Buckeyes and the Exeter Mohawks is any indication, area hockey fans are in far a real treat. Sunday in Zurich, the Mohawks edged the Buckeyes 8-7 as Brian Taylor scbred the winning goal with less than two minutes remaining in a 10 minute' overtime period, The Mohawks' found themselves in, the league final in their first year of operation as the result of an 8-6 victory over the Hensall Sherwoods Friday at the South Huron Bee Centre, The Buckeyes and Mohawks, do battle tonight at the rec centre with the third game in the series set to go Friday in Zurich . The teams will be back in Exeter Sunday with the fourth game scheduled fOr Zurich next Wednesday. In Sunday's game, former Exeter junior Brian Taylor came through in a big way as he scored four goals in- cluding the winner, The game was a seesaw battle from the start of the game with Brian Taylor scoring the first goal of the game at 7;54. Scott Burton assisted. Zurich then struck for three straight goals with defenceman John Graham starting the barrage. Graham took a pass from Richard Schilbe and fired a shot high to John Hayter's glove side. The Buckeyes next goal came on the power play with 'Brian Taylor off for slashing. Richard Schilbe picked up the first of his three goals as he took a pass from Graham and slid the puck into the lower left hand corner of the net. , Hayter continued to have a shaky game in goal for the Mohawks as Ron Rader scored on a 35 foot wrist shot from just inside the blueline with only 11 seconds left on the clock. Glen Zirk had the assist. The Mohawks came out firing at the beginning of the second stanza as they scored three goals in the first four minutes of play, Brian Taylor scored his second of the game on a hard slap shot from the right point which beat Buckeye goalie Randy Oke cleanly. Jim Guenther had the assist. The Buckeyes came back with a goal of their own less than a minute later as Schilbe picked up a bouncing puck and fired a back hand which went by Hayter. Randy McKinnon and Ron Desjardine assisted. Exeter tied the' game at four-all on goals by Scott Burton and Bill yanBergen, Burton's goal resulted from a scramble directly in front of the Zurich net with the Buckeyes failing on repeated occasions to clear the puck. Brad and Brian Taylor had the assists. Moments ,later, the Mohawks almost had a goal courtesy 'of the Buckeyes when Kevin McKinnon in an attempt to clear the puck, fired a shot at his own net. The fourth Exeter goal of the game came when Van Bergen tipped in a pass from An Exeter hockey team will be one of 37 participating in the first annual Hockey News Can-Am International Adult tournament in Lake Placid, New York from April 3 through 6.
