The Antelel St. Patrick's day pot luck supper and euchre sponsored by the Granton proved a. great success, This event was. held in the Mason's hall on Monday evening, Prize winners for the. euchre were, ladies high score,, Mrs. E. Slimmers; lone hands, Mrs. Mary spa/11014w of Kirkton; low scare, Mrs. John Bryan; and, men's high score, Clarence Switzer of Kirkton; lone hands George Round; and low score, Fred Van- derHiede of Denfield. Mrs. Donald. Roloson was the hostess for the March meeting of the Granton W.I. on Tuesday evening. Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins presided. The roll call was answered by naming a tree and the use of its wood. The program topic was Canadian industries and conveners were Mrs, N. Riddell and Mrs: H. Hodgins, Mrs, Riddell read an in- formative article on the different trees and what they were the source of. This mentioned that farm forests were a dormant gold mine; it was also mentioned that there was a free service for woodland evaluation and woodlot management. Mrs. Hodgins enlarged on the Motto which was "Buy Canadian Products and keep Canadians Working." She also gave some information on growing roses and a recipe for a homemade household cleaner. The program concluded with a humorous reading on how to tell if you were an Old Timer. Saturday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Small, Craig and Peggy of Culloden and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Craigmile, London were Sunday guests. Mrs. Don Rixon, London visited Wednesday with her aunt, Miss Rhea Mills. Mrs. John Rodd and Mrs. Clarence Thomson attended a bridal shower for Susan Martin of Delhi Sunday afternoon. Mr. John Rodd visited with Mr. Roy Martin. Mrs. Clarence Lewis, former secretary, mentioned that this year was the 66th anniversary of the. Granton W.I. and reminisced by reading some of the highlights from the past five years. During the business period, donations were voted to the two Granton 4-11 clubs, also it was decided to again canvass the village of Granton for the Lucan- Bicidulph Cancer Society. The following members volunteered; Mesdames G. Dann, H. Wissell, C. Lewis, J. Pecko, H, Hodgins, E. French, D. Roloson and J, Scott, Mrs. E. Summers agreed to be captain. A nominating committee was named consisting of Mesdames N. Riddell, C.McRobert, and E. Sum- mers. Medway Euchre club The Medway euchre club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff McRobert on March 18. The following members were prize winners: -ladies' high score, Clara Hodgins; lone hands, Ethel Lewis, low score Charlotte Kerr, and- men's high score, Carman Hodgins; lone hands, Austin Hobbs; low score, Jim Kerr. Friendly Neighbors There was a good turnout on Wednesday afternoon at the Scout Hall, for an en- joyable time playing pool, shuffleboard and euchre, and later a social time over refreshments. C.G.I.T. news The Granton C.G.I.T. with leaders Mrs. Robt. Harlott and Mrs. Ken Waugh, en- joyed an afternoon of swimming and playing basket-ball at the Stratford Y.M.C.A. ending up at MacDonald's for refresh- ments later. Church news At St. Thomas Anglican Church Rev. F.G. Braby of Stratford was in charge of the service and the Celebrant of the Sacrament of Holy Communion assisted by Miss Marion Herber who read the Epistle for the day. Rev. Braby spoke on the four Sundays in Lent, leading up to the fifth, which is Passion Sunday. This length of time introduces the suffering Jesus went through before his crucifixion on Good Friday. Christ un- derwest ' a series of temptations during his forty days in the wilderness ; the three main temptations were physical, mental, and spiritual. Flowers were placed in the church from the funeral of the late James Brintnell by his family. At the United Church Rev. Elwood Morden was in Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tindall, Marylou and Robert visited Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cun- ningham at Mar Ontario Tuesday, Marylou returned home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Greenlee were Friday dinner guests with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickens Exeter. Mrs. Greta Gibson and Mrs. Ken Bilyea, Bryanston Communion at Greenway By MANUEL CURTS The Sacrament of Holy Communion was observed at the United Church service on Sunday. During the service the Rev. Harley Moore in- ducted Mrs. Fred Bullock, newly elected member of the Session. Many in the community attended the dance and presentation at the Corb.At Community Centre Saturday evening, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Larry McFalls and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Lagerwerf, recent newlyweds. Expressions of sympathy are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hutchinson and other relatives, owing to the death of Mrs. Hutchinson's mother, Mrs. Phoebe Thompson at Chateau Gar- dens Nursing Home, Parkhill, on Saturday. Peter Eagleson, Sarnia, holidayed last week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs, Carman Woodburn, The winter travellers are returning: Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Woodburn, following a couple weeks holiday in Florida; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Whiteford, following a three month stay in Florida; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Steeper, back from a holiday in Hawaii, and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Pollock, home from a six week trip to Florida. charge of the worship for the fifth Sunday in Lent. He heard Jesus pray— "Father forgive them, they know not what they do," he also saw the sign on Jesus's cross, "This is. Jesus, King of the Jews", Realizing that Jesus could help, this man said, Lord remember me. when"Thoucometh into Thy Kingdom," and Jesus an- swered "Today thou shalt be with me in Paradise." This man did not pray to Jesus to save him from the cross, but that he would be able to know a better life with Jesus, said Rev. Morden, Continuing with the Lenten drama series a dialogue presented by Mrs, Roy Penman and Doug Brown told the story of Peter's denial of Jesus, before the Crucifixion. Glen Fetz taught from Phil. 2 9-11, these verses tell us that God highly exalted Christ after He had humbled himself by coming to earth as a servant, and ultimately to die for our sins on Calvary. Christ is now at the right hand of God in- terceding 'for His followers, When Christ comes again, He will return as Lord and King, and at that time every knee shall bow to Jesus, either voluntarily or by force. The evening Bible Study Group, met at the home of Mrs. Fred Crouch on March 19. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday April 2.
