Hensall opened the series
with a 6-4 win on their ice,
Thursday, but the Mohawks
came back with a 5.4
triumph at the rec centre on
Friday and then posted a 6-i
drubbing in the "swing
game" at Hensall, Sunday,
The Sherwoods overcame
a 3-1 deficit in Thursday's
opener and scored twice in
the final two minutes to post
the win.
Brion Penhale shot Exeter
into a lead after only 11
seconds when he scored
unassisted and Jim Guen-
ther made it 2-0 on a play
with Barry Baynham and
Brad Taylor on a power play.
Murray Connolly put
Hensall on the sheet at the
13:51 mark on a play with
Rick Ingram and Steve
Knight, but Exeter regained
their two-goal margin in less
than two minutes when Scott
Burton dented the twine on a
nifty play with Tom. Ryan to
close out the first period.
Hensall took control of the
game in the middle frame as
they scored three in suc-
cession, but the Mohawks
knotted the count at 4-4 on' a
power play goal in the final
minutes by Ron Moore, with
the assists going to Jeff
Fuller and Bill VanBergen,
Rick. Ingram, Steve,
Knight and Jamie Caldwell
netted the Hensel' goals in
the middle frame.
The teams battled back
and forth through the final 20
minutes with netminders
John Hayter and Laurie
Skinner stopping everything
shot at them until the 18:19
mark when Ingram scored
his second of the game on a
solo effort to give Hensall the
lead.

With only two weekS
remaining in the schedule
the Sassenachs lead the
Exeter Legion mixed dart
league with 90 points.
The Doublers are in second
place with 87 points, the Evil
Eyes are third at 85 and the
Winkers are in fourth spot

Local grads
win awards
Two graduates of the
Exeter minor hockey system
were among the winners of
individual awards presented
to members of the Junior
"B" St. Marys Lincolns last
week.
Randy Fisher was named
top defenceman and Brian
Mercer won the most gen-
tleman-like player award.
Both played for the Exeter
Hawks and were members of
the local pee wee and ban-
tam teams when they won
Ontario championships in
1973 and 1975.
Three other members of
those championship teams
were Dave Bogart, who
played this year for the
Junior "B" Strathroy
Blades, and the Pooley
twins. ,
Paul Pooley performed for
the Kitchener Rangers in the
Junior "A" league after
being traded from Kingston,
while brother Perry is toiling
for the North York squad in
Tier Hamior "A"That team
is still in the hunt for the
Canadian championship.
Paul was named as Kit-
chener's representative for
the Junior "A" scholarship
award which goes to the
player who exhibits the
highest standard of hockey
and academic skills.
Darin Telford popped the
winner on a play with Bob
Snell and Dean-Armstrong.
Exeter had knotted the count
with only a minute and a half
remaining in the third in an
exciting finish.
Brent Atthill was the top
scorer as he paced Exeter
with a hat trick per-
formance. Adding the single
was Ted Oke.
Telford ended up with two
for Zurich with one each
being potted by Paul
Johnston, Bryan Kading and
Mark Boogemans,
Scott Brintnell had two
assists for Exeter to lead in
that department, with Mike
Tiedeman, Atthill and Oke
adding one apiece.
Brian Campbell added the
insurance marker with 14
seconds left on the cloak as
Exeter pulled their goalie in'
an attempt to get the
equalizer.
Turn about
Friday night, it was
Exeter's turn for the last
minute heroics as Brad
Taylor scored with just over
four minutes left to give the
Tribe their 5-4 win,
The teams were even at
one apiece after the first and
Exeter took a 3.2 lead into
the third and added one in
the early going, only to have
Hensall tie it by the midway
mark to set the stage for
Taylor's winner,
'Taylor paced the attack
for Exeter with a hat trick
performance, while
defenceman Jim Guenther
added the other two.
Guenther also picked up
three assists to finish the
game with a point on each of
the five goals.
Barry Baynham and Tom
Ryan added two assists,
while helping out on one each
were Randy Gilfillan,, Brion
Penhale and Bill VanBergen.
Murray Connolly, Allan
Taylor, Jamie Caldwell and
Greg Campbell posted
markers for the Sherwoods
with the assists going to Rick
Ingram, Steve Knight, Brian
Campbell, Lloyd Allan and
Connolly.
Big second period
In Sunday's contest in
Hensall, the Tribe took a 1-0
lead in the first on a power
play and then potted four in
the middle frame to win
going away.
John Hayter came up with
a stellar performance bet-
ween the pipes as he allowed
only the single goal to Allan
Taylor after Exeter had
taken a 3-0 lead.
Brad Taylor continued his
scoring prowess with a two-
goal performance, while the
singles,came off the stidks of
Barry Baynham, Brian
Taylor, Tom Ryan and Jeff
Fuller.
Randy Gilfillan and Scott
Burton helped out on two
goals each and single assists
were recorded by Jim
Guenther, Brad Taylor,
Brian Taylor, Tom Ryan and
Barry Baynham.
Steve Knight and Brian
Campbell picked up assists
on the lone Hensall marker.
