Lately I've taken to standing behind glass in the warm part of the arena. This not only prevents your toes from freezing, but it also helps you keep your big mouth shut. It doesn't make sense to yell in- structions at all the players, when the words just echo back in your face. If our team wins tonight, they've got the trophy and that wraps up the season. No more drives to the arena at 10:30 p.m. No more yelling at stupid referees. No more waiting outside smelly dressing rooms. They'd better win tonight. Or else. mittee. Chairman Paul Houstonn was travelling to .the Tues- ,day night meeting from his home in London when poor driving conditions forced him to turn around at Elgin- field. The rec committee recent- ly moved their meeting night to the second Tuesday of the month, rather than the first Tuesday, in hopes of getting better attendence. The plan- ning board moved its meeting to the first Tuesday of the month. in exchange with the rec committee. Sqme rec committee members had called for the switch in meeting nights because the chamber of commerce also meets on the first Tuesday of the month. Two delegations attended last week's rec meeting, hoping to talk to committee members. A representative from the Chamber of com- merce came to the meeting to ask the rec committee for assistance with Burgerfest, and the soccer club sent a delegate to the meeting. Rec committee member and Grand Bend bouncillor Harold Green said that he would like to see more in-. terest in the rec committee. Green said that if the com- mittee folds, there will be less grant money available to the village. He also said that it's up to the rec com- mittee to develop a sports complex on the property ad- jacent to the Legion Hall. Poor attendance at rec committee meetings was discussed at Monday night's meeting. Council's representatives on the rec committee, Keith Crawford and Harold Green told council that some rec members don't let the others know when they can't attend a meeting. "I wouldn't mind if they'd phone, but they don't even phone," Crawford said. Council decided to call a special meeting for Monday night at 7:00 so that they can talk to members of the rec committee. And here it is - that time of year when the horrible hockey wife or mother disease hits hardest - playoffs. It's been difficult to keep your comments to yourself all year, but during playoffs it's impossible. Suddenly it's very important that those idiots out there don't snatch that trophy away from us. And those idiots on our own team better get out there an win it. So much for friendly games. It's amazing how much better the referees are when we're winning. If the score is in our favour, the refs are making fair calls and it's a good clean game. But if we're losing, it's usually because of poor refereeing. Those fellows in the black and white striped sweaters must be blind. They're not calling the spearing and tripping that the other team is doing. If our guy gets a penalty, you tell him to stand up to the ref. Our player has every right to argue with the ref. Usually the ref is dead wrong anyway. But if a guy on their team gets a penalty and complains about it, you call him a "big suck" and a "whiner". Afterall, he had it coining.
