The third 'Ineetong of the
Granton 441 PIO group 2
"The Beergy Savers" was
held at the home of Dianne
Cook.
It was mentioned that the
members found the different
recipes of the last meeting
very interesting. It was
decided to have the book
covers light blue, also to
have two committees,
Rosemary, Linda and. Debra
Geissen, Dianne Cook,
Susanne, and Diane Geissen
were put on the skit com-
mittee, while Anne Garrett,
Diane Garrett, Shelly Egan,
and Julie Funnel would
make up the committee in
charge of the book covers.
Leader Mrs. Robt. Garrett
discussed the making of the
ever popular cabbage rolls,
and cooking them under
pressure or with a pressure
cooker. The girls asked to
examine the pressure cooker
and take note of the safety
devices. Shelly Egan and
Linda Geissen demonstrated
rolling the meat in the leaves
for making cabbage rolls.
The leaders allowed the girls
to practice making the rolls,
and then they were put in the
pressure cooker and left to
cook.
The members paired off to
do a puzzle and solve some
problems concerning the
cost of the amount of elec-
tricity it would take to cook
the cabbage rolls in a
pressure cooker or a micro
wave oven. Leader Mrs.
O'Shea made a chart in
connection with these
calculations. When the rolls
were ready to eat they tasted
alright, but could be im-
proved by adding spices and
a flavor.
Meeting four was held at
the home of Susanne and
Debra Geissen. Roll call was
answered with a report on
chicken cacciatore. There
was a discussion on crepes
which can be used for a main
dish or dessert, they are very
easy to make. Leader Mrs.
O'Shea with the use of some
paper, demonstrated how to
fold the crepes using four
methods.
The girls were told how to
season an iron or steel frying
pan. Crepes can be eaten hot
or cold, Mrs. O'Shea
demonstrated how to make
the crepes, then leader M.
Garrett talked about bit:Ri-
ders, Dianne Cook and
Susanne Geissen made the
crepes, while Julie Funnel
and Diane Garrett made the
cherry and ice cream filling,

The World Day
of Prayer
The annual World Day of
Prayer service was held in
St. Thomas Anglican Church
on Friday evening. The
theme was Responsible
Freedom, the order of
service was made up by the
women of Thailand, asking
all people to join in prayer
and meditation on respon-
sible freedom.
The program was
presented in three parts,
Freedom to one's self,
freedom for our families and
freedom to society. Leaders
from the three churches
were the following mem-
bers: Mrs. Percy Hodgins,
St. Thomas; Mrs. Fred

responsible freedom for our
families section were Mrs. C.
Lewis, John Herbert and

The guest speaker was
Mrs. Walter Creery of
Kirkton, who spoke on the
theme, saying every
freedom involves choice,
how do we choose respon-
sibly, marriage or a
relationship, where do we
draw the line? We can make
one decision as Christians,
we must choose and listen to
God, in that way we leave
ourselves open to Christ's
influence.

unit meet
Unit 1 met at the home of
their president, Mrs. Gordon

endurance.
Mrs. Glen Jameson was in
charge of the program, and
presented a paper on the
current Bible Study on the
"Parables of Jesus". This
dealt with the story of
"Dives and Lazarus".
Scholars seem to agree that
this' parable was a warning.
Dives was a rich man and
lived for himself, and did not
share his wealth, while
Lazarus did what he could to
help his fellowmen.
In the paper there was a
question for discussion
where in the world would we
find conditions where people
were dying of starvation and
disease? This resulted in a
good discussion. To conclude
Mrs. Jameson read a quote
from her paper, "If we
profess to believe in God, but
reject His word and treat the
poor as if they didn't exist,
we are lost forever."
Mrs. Robt. Hardie con-

Church news
At Granton United Church
Rev. Elwood Morden was in
charge of the morning
worship for the third Sunday
in Lent. Taking his sermon
from Mark 15, verses 2,
entitled it "The Conscript."
This referred to Simon the
Cyrenian who was compelled
to carry Jesus' cross. This
action changed Simon's
whole life. Something like
this can happen to us, said
Rev. Morden. Simon was
compelled to bear, a burden
that was not his own. It is not
what life does to us, it is our
reaction that counts.
A dramatic presentation
entitled "What does He offer
- this man Jesus - Accep-
tance." Taking part was
John Drost as the priest,
Paul Wallis as the rich
republican Jew Zachaeus,
and Joanne Goos and
Stephanie Penman as two
young people who questioned
Zachaeus about Jesus, when
he told them he had seen the
Messiah.
At St. Thomas Anglican
Church, Canon David Rees
of London conducted the
service. Take evil out of your
,life, and put angels, in, in
other wordg; plant a good
seed' and there will be no
room for weeds.
