Tuesday night Councillor William Brown made a motion that council accept the petition as presented - "if that is what they (Vanastra) want." However no one would second his motion. Then Deputy-reeve Robert Bell made a motion that the township council oppose the ward system for Vanastra and stay the same, as one municipality. His motion was seconded by Councillor Robert Fotheringham and the motion was approved. Councillor Frank Falconer made a successful motion that the township solicitor, Donald Stewart of Seaforth, be authorized to advise the Ontario Municipal Board of the township's objection to the petition. When the petition was received council refused to forward it to OMB but the Vanastra committee did. It is expected thatI OMB will call a hearing on the proposal. Council had questioned whether Vanastra ratenayers had- wanted a ward system for Vanastra only, for the whole township. Harvey Hammond, a Vanastra ratepayer, said that any meetings he had attended on the subject asked only that Vanastra be made a ward but it was not intended that they push a ward system on the rest of the township. Council approved the 1980 road budget as presented by Allan Nicholson, road superintendent, for $265,450 compared to $273,000 last year. One item in the budget includes $4,000 for safety devices (road signs). Last year the cost to Tuckersmith ratepayers • for road signs was $3,346.45 and almost the entire sum was to replace signs stolen or destroyed by vandals. Seaforth pays $6,240 which is 60 percent of the total cost, while Township of Hibbert pays $1,040 which 1 is 10 percent. Council has donated three locks from the township office which were removed from doors during renovation work to the Huron County museum. The office building was the former guard house when Vanastra was a Canadian Forces base during World War Two. The fox bounty in Huron County will be discontinued on July 1, council has been informed. Seek info on elderly lifestyle Over the next month or so, a team of 10 to 12 ladies from Clinton, Zurich, Goderich and Seaforth will be calling on selected senior citizens throughout the area to ask them to take part in a study being conducted in cooperation with the Rural Development Outreach Project from the University of Guelph and the Huron Commitee of Huron County. Professors Alex Michalos and Linda Wood from the University of Guelph are interested in learning more about the life satisfaction of the rural elderly in Huron County. They are interested in such things as health, family relations, housing, etc. from several different points of view. From this, Professors Michelos and Wood hope to learn what is most important to seniors in this area. It is expected that the results of the study will have a number of benefits for the community: increased sensitivity in the community to the quality of life and needs of the elderly, some ideas for policy development for local social and com- munity agencies, and some suggestions for long-range programs for the benefit of seniors. If you would like more information about this study, please call Mrs. Louise Merritt, the RDOP Coor- dinator in Wingham, at 357- 9911.
