Members of the Exeter
Police Association will have
to wait for another two
weeks to find out if their
recent salary increases will
be approved by council.
Monday night, council
decided to defer ratification
of the new agreement until
their next meeting.
Councillor Ted Wright said
he couldn't agree with a
further delay, noting that
members had the past two
weeks to read the new terms.
"It should have been
passed," he said.
However, Councillor Jay
Campbell said negotiations
with other town employees
.were proceeding and felt it.
would be more appropriate
to come in with a full
package of salary
agreements at the next
meeting.
"I don't think we can
justify going any longer than
that," Campbell added.
The tentative agreement
tabled last meeting calls for
a first class constable to
receive $19,800. That's up
froth the pilevious $17,820.

Members of Exeter
council wondered two weeks
ago what effect their ob-
jection would have, on a
request from Union Gas to
.the Energy Board for in-
creased rates.
Well, they found out that
the company does listen.
They received an im-
mediate reply from F.M.
Edgell, vice-president,
operations, of Union Gas,
outlining some of the reasons
for the rate increase request
and also offering to have the
firm's regional manager
meetmith council to discuss
their concerns.
Councillor Jay Campbell
said he felt it was a good idea
to have the regional
manager meet with council,
noting that he had some
questions about the need for
increased rates.
He explained that he
wanted to know why the
price of natural gas is being
pegged to oil prices and also
why the price does not seem
to reflect the laws of supply
and demand.
Campbell also took ex-
ception to a comment by
Edgell that "Canada has
begun moving to world
energy price levels." The
council member said the
voters of Canada had
rejected that idea when they
went to the polls on February
18 and voted for a party that
had promised, made in
Canada. pricing.
"I want to assure you that
as a company we have
consistently Sought to keep
prices to consumers as low
as possible," Edgell said in
his letter." Furthermore, I
do not believe that there is
any commodity service sold
to the public subject to as
thorough and exhaustive
regulations as natural gas."
combination of the right

proven to be the ingredients
for success for a firm which
recently relocated to Exeter.
MF Builders and
Designers and MF Agri
Builders moved their
operation .from Staffa to
Property owned by Nelson
Monteith just outside of the
town limits because ac-
cording to secretary-
treasurer Raymond Field
the two firms which operate
under the same roof; were
running out of office space
at their former location.
Field explained the two
companies each handle two
different applications for
their pre-engineered
buildings.
Field is in charge of the
industrial and institutional
endof thingswhile co-founder
Cliff Marsden looks after the
construction of
agriculturally oriented
buildings and grain handling
products.
MF's primary market
area is in Huron and Perth
counties with Field saying
Exeter was a central
location.
In terms of competition,
MF is the only company in
this area to offer a complete
service from the engineering
and planning of the struc-
tures to the actual con-
struction. The firm's nearest
competitors are situated in
London and Stratford, Field
stated.
The buildings which MF
constructs are based around
the Butler pre-designed
buildings which have been
available for a number of
years. Field says Butler has
a building for almost every
conceivable , application.
Since 1977 when the firms
were founded, they have
growth where today 17
employees are on the
payroll.
Field sees a great future
for MF' in this area
especially in the commercial
and industrial sector. He
said the area is growing "by
leaps and bounds."
On the farm front, Mar-
sden said farmers are
becoming increasingly

Small businessman.
In recent years, MF has
been quite busy in Exeter
with the construction of the
Big 0 plant on Highway 83
and the reconstruction of
N.T. Monteith farm
equipment building on High-
way 4.
Since October the com-
pany has been remodelling a
portion of the Kongskilde
plant on Highway 83 and just
recently began construction
of a 28,800 square foot
warehouse for the farm
implement manufacturer.
In addition to their con-
struction capabilities, MF
Agri Builders handles a
complete line of equipment
used in the storage of grain.
Both Field and Marsden
have a background in con-
struction which has proven
to be beneficial in their
business, Field stated.
One could say the two
companies are building for
the future in this part of
