The Lucan-Ilderton Jets
lost two games over the
weekend to end their most
dismal season ever in the
QITA Continental senior
league.
Sunday's 14.5 loss to the
Durham Huskies could have
been the last game for the
Jets.
• Club manager and coach
Pete Loveless told the T-A
Monday, "It's my personal
opinion, that it's not possible
to continue,"
He added, "This is the
third straight, ear that we
failed to make the playoffs
and obviously we are not in
good financial shape. You
must make the playoffs to
stay financially alive,"
Loveless continued, "The
players that stuck with us to
complete the schedule
deserve a big, vote of theOks
from the executive,
management and fans."
They had voted in January
to quit after a long losing
streak, but, a couple of
players did private lobbying
and got the others to con-
tinue," said Loveless,
The L-I manager said, "I
thought we had the nucleus
of a good team at the start of
the year, but we got into a
losing streak that reached 23
games and couldn't turn it
around,"
Most of the Jets 34 losses
came in the third period
prompting Loveless to say,
"We were a two peried
hockey team."
In • Sunday's loss in
Durham, the Jets were
behind only 4-3 after the first
period, Loveless added, "At
this point I thought they were
going to give a final hurrah,
but, it went in reverse as
Durham scored seven times
in the second period."
Steve Proctor scored two
goals against Durham while
singles were added by Shawn
Clancy, Brian Johnston and
Chris Harrison.
Shawn Clancy and Steve
Proctor were the Jets
marksmen in a Friday 11-2
loss to the Petrolia Squires.
Don Urbshott, one of the
organizers of the original
team. agreed Monday that
the team would likely fold.
He said, "It's up to the
executive, but, I can't see
how we can continue,"
