TRY .US! A Wide variety of Mother Goose characters and ,five guest skaters featured Saturday's annual carnival of the Exeter figure skating club. Attendance of the two shows Saturday at the South Huron Rec Centre was estimated at 1,000. The guest skaters included Laurie Prod of the Exeter club and her partner, Bill Striver, Who placed sixth in the 1980 Canadian novice dance pairs competition. Also appearing were Mary Jo Fedy and Tim Mills, 1980 Canadian junior pair medalists and Anissa Gurchin, 1979 Western Ontario pre-novice medalist. Several local skaters performed solo and disco numbers as part of 'the Mother Goose theme. Elizabeth Cottrell por- trayed Old MacDonald, Susan Tiernan did the Pussy Cat routine, Monique Aunger was Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Audrey Adkins and Brenda Pincombe skated as Jack and Jill. At the Saturday evening show, Laurie Prout was honoured for her great showing in the Canadian championships, by the Exeter Business Improvement Association with a gift from former chairman Ron Cottrell. Saturday's carnival was under the direction of con- vener Pat Down and her co- conveners Karen Davison and Agnes Aunger. Marie Tieman is president of the club. Saints took a 2-0 first period lead, held on to a 3-2 margin after the second session and each team scored four goals in the third period. Ken Vanos scored both first period goals for the Saints and Mike Sadler connected in the second. flitting for the Buckeyes were Ron Rader and Glen Nicholson. George Black counted two last period goals for the Saints while singles were shot by Rick Vanos and Ken Vanos, Gerald Weido was a double marksmen for Zurich in the final session. Single goals were fired by Mike Clarke and Ron Desjardine, The Centralia College Saints assured themselves of a playoff spot in the South Huron hockey league this week with two straight victories. The Saints edged the Parkhill Merchants, 4-3 Wednesday and the following i night they downed the Zurich Buckeyes 7-6, Against Parkhill, the &into took a 3-0 lead after the first 40 minutes of play and were able to hold off the Merchants in the third period. Ken Vanos led the College scoring attack with two goals. Adding singles were Ed Michniewecz and Dave McFadden. Counting for Parkhill were Gerald Nordeman, Gary McLeod and Dave Walker.
