Following a meeting of the
South Huron Hockey League,
suspensions of two Exeter
Mohawk players have been
upheld.
Mohawk defenceman Jack
Chipchise was suspended
for the balance of the season
with the possibility that
Chipchase may not be
allowed to play the following
season.
The suspension was the
result of an incident at the
end of the game between the
Mohawks and Zurich
Buckeyes December 16 in
which Chipchase
manhandled a game official.
Mohawk manager Louis
Mitchell said the suspension
was not appealed by his
team but that represen-
tations will be made to
clarify Chipchase's status
for the next season.
Receiving a four game
suspension as a result of
activities in the Zurich game
was Jim Guenther.
The Mohawks appealed
that suspension on the basis
of what they contended to be
inferior officiating in the
game. Mitchell said he wrote
a letter to referee in chief
Brian Campbell complaining
about the officiating in the
game.
In other Mohawk news,
Mitchell said his squad was
looking forward to the
second half of the season
with the Mohawks compiling
a six and seven win loss
record in their initial thir-
teen games.
He praised goalie John
Hayter for his work between
the pipes and said the
Mohawks will have a second
goalie for the remainder of
the season. He said Jeff
Davis played a fine game
against the Kettle Point
Warriors in a contest
recently.
"We're still experiencing
growing pains" Mitchell said
referring to the up down and
down season which the team
has experienced both on and
off the ice.
The Mohawks defence has
been hit hard with the two
suspensions and a knee in-
jury to Paul Brooks which
will see him out for the
remainder of the season.
Forward Marty Overholt
is lost for the balance of the
season as the result of a
broken collar-bone.
Mitchell termed at-
tendance at the Mohawks'
home games as "pretty
good" but that they were
always looking for more
fans.

Hawks get good hold on
junior loop fourth place
The Exeter Hawks
solidified their hold on the
fourth and final playoff spot
in the northern division of
the Junior "D" loop as they
ended 1979 by taking three
out of four points from the
last place Seaforth
tenaires,
The locals also surprised
everyone by taking a point
from the Mitchell Hawks in
another of the four games
they played during the
holiday season.
Exeter scored a thrilling 2-
1 win over Seaforth, Friday,
and then returned to pull out
a 5-5 tie on Sundaj, with two

minutes of play in their head-
to-head battle for the final
playoff position.
This weekend, they host
their third annual Junior
"D" tournament at the rec
centre, and based on their
play in the last three games,
won't be as much the un-
derdog as anticipated.
Sunday's 5-5 tie in Seaforth
was a story-book finish as
the Hawks knotted the count
with less than three minutes
to go and then had to do it
again with less than one
minute to go after the
Centenaires had moved
ahead.
The teams traded first
period power play goals and

a battle with their Mitchell
namesakes.
Exeter led 5-4 in the final
seconds, but Mitchell
knotted the count with 18
seconds left to garner one
point in the contest.

the first period as they
surprised Mitchell, but

in the game. He finished the
