A floodplain management
policy for the Aus able-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority was approved by
members at Friday's full
Authority meeting.
Included in the plan are
the Klondyke area of
McGillivray, Stephen and
Bosanquet townships along
the Ausable Rivers including
the Grand Bend and Thed-
ford marshes.
Resources manager Bill
Mungall said principles for
the floodplain management
had been drafted on the basis
of the Hurricane Hazel
floodline and practical
policies for special flood-
plain problems have been set
out in co-operation with the
Lambton County planning
department.

more than half the
watereshed area.
Existing farm operations
and subdivisions would be
recognized under the
floodplain policy. New
developments would have to
be erected more than 592.7
feet above sea level to be
safe from possible flood-
waters.
Property owners in the 15
municipalities asking for fill

permission from the
Authority executive for a
building permit.
Paul Steckle, chairman of
the watershed management
advisory board said it was a
year of ups and downs for his
group as far as projects
were concerned.
Steckle said 1979 saw
failure of the Stewart Gully
in East Williams township
after 13 years of service and
Complete repair will be
effected in 1980 with co-
operation from the township.
Slumping occurred on one
bank of the Walker Drain
project in Grand Bend, due
largely to improper con-
struction and design. Repair
is currently being carried
out.
Steckle said a sub-
committee of Cecil
Desjardine, Robert Austin
and Frank McFadden was
appointed to investigate long
range land acquisition in the
Bayfield River Valley and
Ausable Gorge.
Friday's meeting was
conducted by Authority
Chairman Ivan Hearn of
