The Fair dates will be August 15,16 and 17. The Christmas meeting, a party for wives and children on December 17, was a huge success, including of course, a visit from the Jolly Old Fellow, himself. The Lions wish to extend the Joys of the Season to all and to thank each one for the support given to Lions Club work during 1979. We trust your interest will continue in 1980. Denfield Store Senior Christmas party,Thursday Two persons have been charged with theft by of- ficers of Lucan detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. They were ap- prehended while attempting to cut down an evergreen tree. A recent breakin at Medway high school in- volved the theft of an automobile which was being ( worked on by students. It was later recovered. Detachment officers in- vestigated four accidents with one person being in- jured and damages totalling $4,350. Sunday, a vehicle owned Anglican Concert The Sunday School of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Lucan, presented their annual Christmas Concert at the Sunday morning service December 16 commencing with a candle lighting ceremony and the singing of "Jesus Bids us Shine". The under four years class, taught by Trudy Dick and Heather Gillen presented action plays and songs. The 5-9 year olds gave a play of "Christmas 'round the World," featuring Mexico, Spain, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Ireland, Italy, China and Czechoslovakia, and wound up by singing "Joy to the World". Teachers of this group are Nancy VanGeel and Beth Smith. The 10 years and over group presented the Indian version of the Nativity story, singing the Huron Indian Carol. They also gave the history of the carol "Silent Night" and sang it, as well as several others. Teachers are Lois Hodgins and Marla Wilson, The members of the Sunday School then returned to the choir loft and sang "Away In A Manger". Beulah Hardy accompanied all groups on the organ. Following the concert a presentation of a recliner chair was made to Rev. John Holland, on behalf of the congregation, by Mr. Donald Ankers. Mr. Holland leaves Lucan the end of the month to assume pastoral duties in Watford. by Barry Wagner, Black- friars Boulevard, London was stolen and struck a pole on County road 28. Constable T.C. Chapman is the in- vestigating officer. Friday at 3 p.m. vehicles driven by Earl Redick, Lucan and Helga Kress, RR 1, Lucan collided in Lucan. Constable B.D. Munro in- vestigated. A vehicle driven by Ronald Flannery, RR 2, London Members and friends of the Lucan United Church Women met Tuesday evening for a Christmas pot luck supper, program and candlelight vesper service. Representatives were present from Clandeboye U.C.W. Holy Trinity A.C.W., Revival Centre W.A., Catholic Women's League, the quilters, Sunday School teachers, choir members and all the ladies from the local Meadowcrest Homes. Following a "super" smorgasbord crupper members and guests were welcomed by vice-president, Shirley Ryan, who led in a prayer for strength for the president, Honor Stanley in her time of sorrow. Donna VanArenthals, Program Convener, called on members of the Friend- ship Unit to assist with a "fun" program and Marguerite McRoberts led in three Christmas rounds. Memories of Christmas from Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore were given by Donna and by Kit Hearn. Linda Froats read a poem "Christmas is in Your Heart" and Donna demonstrated a Christmas floral arrangement. This one plus one previously made, were won by Ruth Butler and Dorothy Murray, with Ruth's being redonated to a shut-in. An alphabetical Christmas skit and a spelling game closed the fun part of the program. The Worship was convened by the Evening Unit, com- mencing with a lovely solo by Flora Robertson "Noel, Noel" and those taking part in the candlelighting service were, Freeda Melanson, Iola Goring, Bernice Lockyer, Mabel Froats and Iva Hodgins, with Dora Thompson at the piano. struck a hydro pole on County road 16 at Ilderton Saturday at 1:40 a.m. Damages were listed at $2,400 by Constable C.S. Keith Brown. Revival Lucan Revival Centre held their Christmas banquet Friday evening at the Berkeley Restaurant, Exeter. After the delicious turkey dinner, all were entertained with several musical presentations. With Mrs. June Quillen playing Clare Swartz sang, Alfred Pedde and Joan Lockyer sang a duet while playing their guitars. An unusual musical medley was a duet of Harold Fletcher playing his guitar, while Ken Allen played his violin. Rev. Ray Brewster con- ducted a quiz with several of the men who had been briefed the quiz was to be on their favourite sport. But instead as it was on kissing the resulting answers were quite hilarious. Roger: and Kathy Mason, using the theme of "The Twelve Days of Christmas," did a humorous skit with several church members on Rev. Ray and Becky Brewster's life since coming to the church in Lucan. Closing the evening the guests enjoyed the quartette "Living Waters" as they played and sang several songs. Rev Ray Brewster told of the headlines in the paper showing no peace in the world. After reading Isaiah 9:6, he talked of how this prophesied of JesustO come as the prince of peace, to ail mankind. When Jesus was bon the angels announced peace to the world, Peace on be ours through Jesus, Gad's son. Sunday Morning the song leader was Rick Rose. Mrs, Marlene Thornton, with the children sitting around the front, gave them an object lesson On reflections, using Christmas balls. As clean ball shows good reflections, so our clean lives reflect Jesus. Mrs. June Quillen and Mrs. Lorraine Armitage sang a duet. Rev. Ray Brewster read Members of" the Sunshine and Busy Buddies met Thursday afternoon with President, Mildred klirtzel presiding for the brief business meeting, A letter of thanks was read from Margaret Carter and Marie Veel was welcomed to the Club as a new member bringing the total to over 90. As there will be no meeting between Christmas and New Years the next one will be Thursday, January 3. Members were reminded of the Christmas dinner tomorrow, Thursday, at 1 p.m, in Holy Trinity Lower Hall, followed by distribution of gifts games and program in the Clubroom. Those wishing transportation should call the President, 228-6731, today. Birthday wishes were extended to Margaret Allen, and carol singing was en- joyed. Euchre prizes were won as follows: Lady's High Margaret Carter; Lone Hands, Mildred Hirtzel; United Chruch The junior Choir, under the direction of Linda Froats and with Helen Brown at the piano, sang two very lovely carols "Calypso Carol" and "Christmas Lullaby", and "The Gift" was the story- sermon, given by Rev. Keith Brown. It was a most heart touching story told by a minister of a downtown city church of a little boy "Nicky" who got what he wished for as a gift-the strength to finish a beautifully carved manger scene, complete with all the figures of Christmas story. The flowers in the sanc- tuary were from the funeral of the late Emerson Stanley, a life-long member of this congregation. Tomorrow, Thursday at 9.45 the Prayer and Share Fellowship meets. All women of the community are welcome. Centre the Scripture telling of God's great plan of redemption. When Adam and Eve sinned it brought separation from God, as sin still does today. There was and still is no way to separate man from this sin on his own. Only God can cure man's sin problem. God gave His son Jesus Christ to set us free, breaking satan's rule. For the evening service Rick Thornton was the song leader. Mrs. Marlene Thorn- ton read the start of the Christmas story before leading thechoir in singing "My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord." Different choir members read scripture prophecies of Jesus birth. After each scripture reading the choir sang an appropriate number. When the choir finished singing Mrs. Thornton thanked them for their faithfulness in practicing, Two Junior boys and girls classes did "The Little Drummer Boy" With costuming, under the direction. of Rhea Marcus, and Jean Brown's elass gave the Christmas story beginning with the prophecy of Isaiah, three' the angel's proclamation to Mary, as well as the shepherds' and wisemen's parts. The 11 to high school age class read, in pairs,'another version of the Christmas story, told the meaning of the "Star of Bethlehem" wreath with bells, and distributed one of these to each person present. Barb Coughlin teaches this class. Barb Bannerman, as well as being the general eon- Vener for the eoncert, had her high school age class give a dramatic reeding of A "Modern Day Miracle", completing the program, The children, parents and friends Went downstairs for refreshments provided by the teachers and mothers and bags of "goodies" were distributed by Santa Claus. Dowdall, and low Lloyd Elliott, A contest for the Busy Buddies on the parts of a Hardy family for Christmas Eighty-eight members of the Hardy family gathered in the Leprechaun Room last Sunday, for their annual Christmas party. Following a full course turkey dinner, catered for by the the Clandeboye United Church Women, the af- ternoon was spent pleasantly with entertainment by a quartette from the family of Clarence and Beulah Hardy, which increased to a double quartette when others joined their voices for several numbers. Lynn (Knight) Henderson led the families in carol singing until Santa arrived to distribute gifts from a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Family members were present from Toronto, Windsor, Kintore, London, Ilderton, Ailsa Craig, Clandeboye and Lucan. RECEPTION To celebrate the marriage of Steven Meszaros and Ruth Grider on December 1 Howard and Eileen Currie held a reception for them in their home, Saturday evening. After the buffet supper the couple cut the wedding cake. Howard Currie led in a toast to the bride, Ruth, then Rev. Ray Brewster gave a toast to the happy couple. Harold Fletcher en- tertained the guests playing his guitar while singing several songs, one of which was "Congratulations are in Order". The guests joined the singing some of the songs. There is still lots of room in the "coffee doh" for men each Monday morning and also in the bowling club each Wednesday at 1.30 p.m. The Busy Buddies will continue Ceramics for the first two weeks in January, or until the quilt is ready to be put in. AWC meet for Christmas The Ladies' Guild of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Lucan, met Tuesday evening with president Mrs. Merton Culbert opening the meeting/ with a Christmas poem and prayer. The scripture was read by Mrs. Donald O'Neil. December marks the end of the Guild fiscal year, so most of the business con- cerned the disbursement of funds earned during the year. Treasurer, Mrs. Kay Egan, tendered her resignation effective the end of December. The president expressed thanks on behalf of the group to Mrs. Egan for her faithful service during the past 19 years. Mrs. Egan will be succeeded by Mrs. Frank Hardy, Jr. Lunch was served and the meeting concluded with prayer by Rev. John Holland.
