AREA FOX HUNT — A traditional English fox hunt was held in Biddulph township Tuesday. Heading
Lowell Wells farm in Biddulph township are Peter Wainwright and 15 riders and accompanying
out the the laneway of the
hounds. T-A photo
Looking for a real live fox
Traditional hunt near Lucan
At 10.30 a.m. the group
heads outside where they
ready their mounts.
Taking part in the hunt
which may last four hours
and cover two or three
concessions are 15 riders and
twenty pairs of hounds.
The Trollope rarelycatch-
es a fox with Wainright
saying it was the actual ride
which was the most en-
joyable factor.
Heading down the treed
laneway the hounds sticking
together like glue, lead the
Trollope down the con-
cession road. Soon, the dogs
increase their pace with
the group following at a
comfortable distance.
As with most
organizations, certain
positions must be
filled. Trollope is senior
master while Wainright is
joint master.
Robbie Trollope is first
whip with Steve Preszcator
amateur whip.
Tina Sully-Robinson is
master of the horses with
Tony Vandenhoven in charge
of the kennel.
The Trollope also has a
hunt supporter's group
which involves non-riders in
the hunt by acting as lookout
for traffic.
Coming to an intersection,
the hunt stops temporarily
while a rider goes off on a
scouting mission.
And then the hunt con-
tinues for Reddy the Fox.

Acclaimed chairman
Donald MacDonald warned
the Huron County board of
education Monday that
trustees face major
decisions in the future and to
make those decision it would
have to work to keep
education "hot in the minds"
of taxpayers.
The Brussels trustee and
former vice-chairman of the
board had his bid for
chairman go unchallenged at
the board's inaugural
session.
In his address to the board
MacDonald outlined matters
trustees would be forced to
deal with as a result of
declining enrolment. He said
the only way problems
caused by declining
enrolment could be resolved
is by establishing good
relations with both board
personnel and ratepayers.
He told the board the
hiring of a full time per-
sonnel officer was a big step
toward patching differences
with board staff but warned
that one person can't do all
that has to be done.
He said trustees would
have to make a sincere effort
to "consult" with staff and
attempt to resolve issues
with the knowledge of each
other's "Problems and
Frustrations,"
He told trustees it ap-
peared the only time
ratepayers took any interest
in education was at budget
time and at book approval
time. He said that would
have to change since many
of the decisions the board
would be making would
affect the "lives and
livlihood of a great many
people".
He said declining
enrolment will reduce the
population of the county
schools be 300 to 400 students
a year in the next four years.
He added that provincial
grants, based on a per capita
formula, would be
decreasing during that time.
He pointed out that the
board's budget now a $23
million package, was in-
creasing by seven to ten
percent annually which,
unless something is done,
will mean the budget will
double in ten years.
MacDonald told the board
the director of education was
preparing—a corriprehensive
report on the effects of
declining enrolment which
should be ready fur the board
in May. He said the board
would then have to be ready
to deal with the situation.
He said dealing with
declining enrolment may
cause trustees to make
decisions that would affect
their future as trustees.
"I ask you to do what you
feel is just and fair," he said,

Seal orth trustee John
Henderson was acclaimed
vice-chairman of the board
when Dave Gower, Goderich
trustee, withdrew his
nomination.
Gower said he did not feel
his one year's experience on
the board qualified him to
serve as vice-chairman. He
said the reason he declared
interest in the post was to
motivate other trustees to
stand for election,

On a farm in Biddulph
township all is quiet with the
exception of the barking of
hounds and neighing of
horses.
It's cool this Tuesday
morning with indication in
the sky that winter will soon
be here.
Inside the house of Lowell
Wells at RR 1 Lucan a dozen
gentlemen and ladies
dressed in tunics and jodh-
purs are milling around with
a glass of sherry in their
hand waiting for a few more
friends to join them in one of
the final rides of "The
Trollope."
Peter Wainright, an
eradite Englishman says the
"Trollope" named after
London restauranteur Bob
Trollope is a group of London
and area riding enthusiasts
who still practice the
traditional form of the
English fox hunt; in other
words, they go after the fox
and not a bag of scent.
The Trollope has been
operational for four years
and meets twice a week from
September to December to
pursue the elusive member
of the canine family.
In addition to Biddulph
township, the group rides in
areas near Thamesford,
Parkhill, Ingersoll, Thorn-
dale. Wainright emphasized
that the Trollope always
receives permission from
landowners before they
enter private property. He
said they have received
excellent co-operation from
the people of the Lucan area
township. In recognition of
their co-operation land-
owners are treated to a
dinner at one of Trollope's
establishments.
