Great Canadian Bean Co. and England's Auto Body are Jets Sup- porters. Despite a four game losing streak, Lucan-Ilderton Jets manager Pete Loveless is satisfied with his team's performance. Following Sunday's 6-4 loss to the London Kings Loveless told the T-A, "We have been hampered in recent weeks by injuries and a number of no-shows because of work com- mitments. I am certainly looking for improvements in those departments." been doing a great job with the youngsters on the team. We will be working hard this week for the weekend series with the Woodstock Royals. These two games will be very important," concluded the Jets manager. The Jets were in action on three occasions this week and failed to make the winners circle. Wednesday, they dropped a 9-3 decision to the Chatham Maroons, Friday they lost 8-2 to the Preston Jesters and Sunday they lost 6-4 to the ,London Kings after leading 4-0 early in the second period. The weekend home and home games with the Royals will be in Ilderton Friday night at 8:15 p.m. and back at Woodstock Sunday night for a seven o'clock contest. In Sunday's game the Jets learned they cannot let down on any early lead. The Kings scored two goals in the second period and notched four unanswered scores in the last 20 minutes of play to get the victory. Jets coach Bill White said, "We stopped skating and forechecking and they got the momentum. You can't turn it on and off like a tap." Ed Robb opened the Jets Sunday scoring at 8:05 of the first period on an unassisted effort and Jamie Robb made the score 2-0 at 17:21 on a three-way effort with Rick Banks and Ed Robb. With only 20 seconds left in the first period, Bob Dean finished off a passing combination with Ed Parkinson and Dave Brown to up the score to 3-0. Only three minutes had elapsed in the second period when Bruce Reddick con- verted a pass from Ed Parkinson into the fourth Lucan-Ilderton goal. Gord Yuill started the London goal production at the 13 minute mark and Moe Brown closed the Jets lead to a pair of goals at 19:23. John Held notched the third Kings marker at 5:53 of the third period and John Stanley shot the tying goal at 13.25. The. eventual winning goal came from the stick of Tom Whitehead at 18.51 of the period and Steve Stockman added the insurance tally with only 32 seconds remaining. The Jets took four of the seven minor penalties called by referee Ivan Bryce of Watford, Different Start With only 12 skaters in the lineup the Jets fell behind quickly in Friday's 8-2 loss to Preston. They trailed 4-0 at "We just can't put it in the net," lamented Exeter Hawks coach Ron Bogart after his team dropped their fifth straight with a 9-1 trouncing at the hands of Thamesford, Friday. The score was not in- dicative of the play as the Hawks fired 41 shots at the Thamesford net but could only connect on one. "Our shooting average is pathetic," Bogart said, noting that while the team showed plenty 9f hustle in the first period of the Friday game, they are still plagued by having too many players trying to perform in- dividually rather than on a team basis. Thamesford took a quick lead in the first period, but the Hawks evened things with just over two minutes to go when Dave Kinsman blinked the light on a play with Kerry Bedard and Ken Varley. The 1979-80 season for the various divisions of the Exeter curling club opened this week with a number of activities. At the first meeting of the ladies club, Dorothy Pfaff was named president and plans were completed for winter activities, A pot luck supper and night for new curlers was held Tuesday with 45 ladies in attendance. Edna Busche explained the game to the new curlers before a prac- tice session for everyone. 'The first opening mixed bonspiel wars held Friday and Saturday nights with 20 rinks participating. A foursome of Doug Pearson ,Rena McLean, Paul McKnight and Jamie Bond won the first draw. Second were Don Cameron, Dorothy Goderich Hensall CCAT Exeter Zurich Centralia Parkhill Thedford Grand Bend Kettle Point one point in the second period. The first L-I goal came from the stick of Tom Hodgins in the second period with assists going to Ed Robb and Bob Dean. Jamie Robb counted the second and final score for his club at 6.59 of the third period on a play started by Chuck Robbins and Steve Proctor. Jeff Jaques, formerly of the Toronto Toros led the Preston scoring attack with four goals. Scoring in single fashion were Dave Shurlock, Tim Holder, Jerry Harrigan and Doug Withenshaw. Another slow start All of the Jets scoring in the 9-3 loss to Chatham was restricted to the third period. The L-I goals were fired by Barry Baynham, Ed Parkinson and Bobby Dean. Gary Brown was tops for Chatham with a three goal effort. Todd Livingstone was next with two scores and singles were added by Brian Drombolis, Vince Mullins, Randy Aitken and Dave Easton. However, the Exeter defence fell apart in the middle frame when the hosts potted four goals and the third was a continuation of that. Tom Brady paced the attack for Thamesford with four goals against Steve Sararas who was left alone on many occasions to battle the Trojans. He made 42 saves as a total of 51 shots were aimed in his direction. Thamesford scored on two power play attempts and added one while playing short handed. The teams were even in the penalty parade - with nine each, including a five minute fighting major to Ron Bilcke. The Hawks host Tavistock at the rec centre on Friday and then travel to Bothwell for a Saturday encounter. They're still Woking for their first win in league action. Leading the team in scoring, as usual, was Heather Riddell with 17 points, Helen Muller with 10, Julianne Maclean - four, and Brenda Riddell and Ronalee Bogart with three each. Showing good defensive efforts were Cindy O'Brien and Colleen Waddell. The junior game had a somewhat surprising result as South Huron crushed Seaforth 50-29. Lori Brand led the team in scoring with 16 points and defensively in steals and rebounds, Also playing well, were Maja Gans with 14 points, Fay Gaiser and Carrie Sweeney with six points and Deb Taylor four. Both girls pressured well causing Listowel to turn over the ball 20 times between them. The scoring was spread out amongst the team with Cindy Down , Leslie Hunter- Duvar, Brenda Bell and ,Starr Jesney adding points. In a low scoring, rather sloppily played match South Huron sent Wingham to defeat in the junior game. Leading the team in scoring with 12 points and reboun- ding well was Maja Gans. Next in line was Lori Brand with six, and Fay Gaiser, Deb Taylor and Carrie Sweeney with four a piece. Brenda Riddell led -the seniors over Wingham with 21 points followed by her sister Heather with six and Helen Muller with three. As well these players along with Ronalee Bogart and Liz Datars played well defen- sively.
