The cerenionies were conducted in the St. Columban Council Chambers by District Deputy Jim , Devereaux assisted by District Warden Leo Hagan. The executive officers formed up in the form of a cross which is the symbol of their faith and fitttingly the symbol by which the Knights swear their allegiance the principles for which they stand ready to protect. Filling the position of Chaplain is Reverend Father Hardy who provides the spiritual guidance. IRVIN RADER • DASHWOOD Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid held their annual fowl supper Wednesday with husbands or a friend as guests. Group 2 with Mrs, Charles Martene, convener, was in charge. Mrs. Lorne, Genttner,- president, welcomed everyone and conducted a brief business meeting following the supper. The Altar Guild reported 14 visits. The new Guild is Mrs. Harvey Beierling and Mrs. Dave Rader. The November meeting will be held at Mrs. Lloyd Rader's residence. Church Ladies meet Calvary United Church Women held their October meeting with the Christian Development group in charge and Mrs. Eben Weigand Chairlady. The autumn theme was a table decorated with flowers, fruits and vegetables. Mrs. Weigand opened the meeting with a reading followed by a Thankoffering poem by Mrs. Stuart Wolfe, Mrs. Lloyd Guenther gave a prayer after which the Thankoffering boxes were collected by Mrs. Jack Gaiser and Mrs. Lloyd Guenther followed by a prayer by Mrs, Weigand. Mrs. Don Weigand sang a solo "Only a Prayer Away." A thanksgiving reading "Thank God for • Life" was read by Mrs. Weigand. Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan was in charge of a hymn"Onward Christian Women" brought 'from the regional. The Sunshine committee is Mrs. Weigand and Mrs. Wolfe. The meeting closed with a reading, •"We need courage Father." Miss Laing then took the ladies on a tour of the renovated Manse. A social time followed. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader spent several days in London last week with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rader and Ben. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Becker have returned home following a visit with friends at Green Bay, Oconto Falls and Suring, Wisconsin for a GRADUATES — Sandra ,Stewart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stewart, Kirkton graduated recently from Georpiah Barrie. A graduate of the Interior, design program, she is now employed by the design department at Georgian College. week. Them on to Manitoba where they visited friends in Winnipeg, Minedosa and Robbin returning by Air Canada from Winnipeg to London. Visitors for a week with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Stade and Sherrie were Mrs, Stades brother and wife Mr. and Mrs. Nick Biesenthal, Regina.. Visitors during" the week were Mr. and Mrs. Victor Loeb, Bradford; Miss Elaine Weimer, Toronto; Miss Irene Hippe, Aldergrove, B,C. Miss Elsie Biesenthal, Regina; Earl Stumpf, Kit- chener; Mr. and Mrs. Siegfried Miller, Port Dover, and Mrs. Martha Miller, Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich. Dean and Trevor Boyle, Terry Bender and Dwayne Smith, Wyoming, attended the British Columbia - Ottawa football game at Ottawa and spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Scott Boyle. Huron Hope newsletter We received many com- pliments on the display from our school at the Exeter Fair. Our life size clown which the children had filled with stuffing drew attention to their crafts and other school work. We appreciate the opportunity that the Fair Board gives us to exhibit our work. Our senior class ac- companied by Mrs. MacGregor, Mrs. Jaques and our volunteer Mrs. Mary Boyle was able to attend the Western Fair in London. They were given a conducted tour through the Agricultural building by oa guide who talked to them about the various animals. After lunch and a visit through the Marco Polo building those who wished had a ride on the midway. Our final swimming session for this term will be October 24th. All students have Made considerable progress and Susan and Claudette are now working off the diving board. We are grateful for our volunteers Mrs. Myra Lovell and Mrs. Ann Klungel who are a great help with this program. We now have five students in each Wednesday for a work experience program. These girls have been working with our pupils in several areas including crafts, food preparation and game skills. This past week the senior room baked rolls and the junior room made rainbow cookies. The arena in Huron Park is now under the ad- ministration of Stephen Township. Mr. Frank Funston, the , arena manager, has very kindly agreed not to charge us the $25.00 an hour rental fee so that our students may continue to have a winter skating program. We are very appreciative of this kindness and look forward to beginning our sessions on November 7th. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Maxine Hyde come in each Thursday morning to work with our students. So. much more is accomplished when we have this kind of assistance. Two very special grade eight students come in every day and eat their lunch with our junior pupils. This the second year that Karen Snell and Sandra Glanville have given us this help. Miss Mary Kennedy and Mrs. Sandra Schott have joined together in planning and presenting their first two lessons. We are very for- tunate to have the expertise of these two women and the students have been most enthusiastic. Through their, combined efforts, they have presented us "with music, filmstrip stories and crafts. Mrs, Schott wrote a song especially for us which all of the children have learned. The McCtn dy - Huron Hope Schools will be having Open House on Thursday, October 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. We hope all of our pupils will bring their parents to this event. October 29 will be a Professional Activity Day. Our staff will be 'attending sessions at the Victoria Inn at Stratford. If any parent wishes to join us for this activity please let me know. We have been invited to: participate in a swim meet at Vanastra on November 2. We Will join the Wingham ' and Goderich schools for an afternoon of recreation and fun. More information will be sent home later. E. Scott, 'Principal Rev, and Mrs. T. Garnett !fusser, Beamsville, Mr. and Mrs. Don Ingram and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Dreyer and family of Aylmer. and Mrs. Claire Sheppard and daughter of Tillsonburg were Thanksgiving guests with Mr. and Mrs. William Scotchmer and family on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn have returned home after spending several weeks vacationing at Silver Lake and Kincardine. Mrs. Edith Bell who was a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter was transferred to University Hospital, London where she underwent surgery for a fractured hip. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery, Mrs. Russell Erratt is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London where she is receiving treatment, Mr. and Mrs. Pat O'Brien have taken up residence in the Queenscourt apartments 176 Oxford Street. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Campbell of Toronto spent the week-end with the for- mer's parents Mr. and Mrs. Perc Campbell and were guests at the Koehler- Gelinas wedding at St. Boniface Church Zurich on Saturday. Mrs. Ed Corbett has resumed her position at the local Bank of Montreal after a pleasant vacation. A large number of relatives and friends at- tended the Koehler-Gelinas wedding reception held at the Zurich Community Centre on Saturday evening, Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied .by "the Blue Water Playboys.
