SH midget girls win in
cross country invi .rational •
The South Huron midget
girls won their division in
Thursday's annual South
Huron District High School
cross country meet held at
the local school,
The six member South
Huron team was led by
Catherine Patterson who
finished in third place in 13
minutes and 26 seconds, only
30 seconds behind the winner
Sharon Parsons from
Stratford Northwestern,
Alice Dietrich was eighth
in 13 minutes and 38 seconds
and Carla Solomon was 10th
only 19 seconds farther back,
Other members of the SH
team were Judy VanOss,
Susan McClure and Mary
Lou Rundle.
In senior boys competition,
the South Huron team
finished second to College
Avenue of Woodstock.
Murray Wareing was third,
Matt McClure sixth and
Rodney Masnica was 13th.
Also placing for South
Huron were Kevin
Easterbrook, Doug Medd,
Mike Fleming, Mike Van
Raay and Jim Regier.
Competing for South
Huron in the midget boys
section were Steve Creces,
Dan Reid and John Peters.
Exeter centre-forward
Martin DeBruyn and mid-
fielder Mike Janyu split
goals at one apiece in each
half during the Centennials'
4-0 defeat of Lucan at
Canner's field, Sunday.
The clubs were playing in
the first of a best-of-three
series for the Ausable
district B•division soccer
championship.
In the senior girls com-
petition, Dorothy Van
Esbroeck of South Huron
was fourth with Sharon
Rundle 10th and Sarah
McClure 20th. Others on the
local team were Suzanne
Patterson, Susan Fleming
and Lisa Hamather.
Janyu began and ended the
scoring with goals at two and
55 minutes. His first went in
on a short &iv:. near the
Lucan net. His second with a
well-hit conversion of a pass
from right-winger Al Herm
DeBruyn's goals also
came from nicely Executed
shots. Both from outside the
18 yard box to finish off at-
tacks along the wings. One of
them at 28, and the other at
50 minutes.
Among Lucan's better
chances in the game were a
pair of penalty-kicks. These
awards came in each half.
The first kick went wide, and
the second was stopped cold
by Exeter goalkeeper Al
Beattie.
The Centennials played a
settled game. Moreover, just
as it did a week ago on the
way to the finals, the club
received excellent efforts
from every player.
The sides meet again at
Lucan Sunday, October 21, at
2 p.m. A third and final
match, if needed, will be
played at Huron Park the
following Sunday, also at 2

The fortunes of the Lucan-
Ilderton Jets for the 1979-80
OHA Senior Continental
season appear to be much
brighter following two well
deserved victories this week.
After losing the opening
game of the schedule a week
ago, the Jets came roaring
back on holm ice Friday
night to score an impressive
8-6 win over Allan Cup
champion Petrolia Squires.
They continued their
winning ways in Woodstock
Sunday evening with a 4-2
decision over the -Royals.
The Jetswillbe inStratford
tonight Wednesday at -8,.15
p.m. to meet the Perths and
Friday night they will be at
home at the Ilderton arena to
take' on the Cambridge
Hornets, the newest team in
the league.
Crosbie stars •
Newly acquired goal
tender Peter Crosbie was
one of the main reasons in
both Jet victories.
Crosbie who has been idle
for the past two years as far
as netminding is' concerned
faced 50 shots in Friday's
win over the strong Petrolia
club.
He was helped immensely
by the scoring ac-
complishments of, Bruce
Reddick who blined the
light four times behind
Bruce Aberhhart, the
Petrolia goalie.
The JetS took a 2-0 first
period lead as Bruce Red-
dick picked up half of his
night's goals. The first score
came on a pass from Rick
Banks and the second was
the result of a passing
combination with Randy
Kraul.
The second period was
only 58 seconds old when
Randy Kraul put the Jets
ahead 3-0 with a wicked slap
shot from the point. Dave
Revington assisted.
In the next five minutes
the Squires made their first
appearance on the
scoreboard on goals from the
sticks of captain Barry
Edgar and Lou Gagnon.
The L-I club was quick to
restore their two goal lead.
At 12.59 Bobby Dean counted,
on a three-way effort with
Hugh Mitchell and Ed
Parkinson and Parkinson
scored on a power play with
passing help from Barry
Baynham and Randy Kraul
only a minute and a half
later.
Before the first 40 minutes
were completed, Kevin
Bracken tallied for Petrolia.
Goals came quickly in the
third period. At 5.51 Bruce
Reddick with an assist from
Jamie Robb notched his
third goal of the night, .but,
Jim Willis replied for
Petrolia only eight seconds
later.
Jim Willis scored again at
7:01and the Jets were ahead
by only 6-5.
Hugh Mitchell took a pass
from Bobby Dean at 13.45
and fired the puck into the
Petrolia net. At 16.03 Dan
Wilson registered the final
Petrolia score and Bruce
Reddick was back at 17.24 to
culminate a' three-way
passing combination with Ed
Parkinson and Bobby Dean
to end the game scoring,
The Squires took 10 of the
19 minor penalties assessed
by referee Glenn Beech.
Peter Crosbie with ex-
cellent goal tending and
Bruce Reddick and his four
goal effort were the stars for
the Jets. 0 Two more stars
Sunday the star roles went
to Hugh Mitchell and Ed
Robb along with Peter
Crosbie. Mitchell and Robb
each scored two goals in the
third period and Crosbie was
flawless in keeping the op-
position off the scoreboard.
The score was 2-0 at the
end of the second period for
Woodstock on goals by Gene
MacLaren and Ray Tilley.
At 4.59 of the final session
the_first L-I goal came from
the stick of Hugh Mitchell on
a play started by Ed Robb.
Less than three minutes
later, Mitchell was back
again with a successful shot
on an unassisted effort.
Steve Proctor rushed a
Petrolia defenceman away
from the puck to allow
Mitchell to move in for his
score.
Ed Robb scored what
proved to be the winning 'goal
at 9.02 on a breakaway effort
and exactly 10 minutes later
with Woodstock applying six
man pressure Robb fired the
puck into the empty net and
that was the ball game.
The Winkers have opened
up a three point lead in first
place in the Exeter Legion
mixed dart league.
They have a total of 22
points while the Outlaws are
