The faces are familiar but they are now on different teams that were rearranged during the off season. The only familiar faces in the old spots were the goalies Keith Ewer, Chuck Fredin, Phil Vousden, John Garrison and coaches Gary Manders, Gary Wilcox, Richard "Tiger" Acres and last years' coach of the year, Barb Wraith. In the opening game the lamps were lit quite a few times, especially in the first period, as Salon 174 defeated the Greens 8-6. Seven of the goals were accounted for during 10 minutes of play in the first period. Salon 174, defending league champs, drew first blood as they started the spree with a goal by Scott Anderson. The Greens came back half a minute later to tie the score as Gord Moon scored the first of his two goals and his five points. Salon 174 came back to open the lead to 3-1 as Chris Mouritzen scored the first of his hattrick and Don Murray deflected a waist high shot past goalie John Garrison, However, by the end of the Damages $12,700 in area crashes Damages totalled $12,700 in five accidents in- vestigated this week by of- ficers of the Ontario Provin- cial Police detachment at Lucan. Thursday at 1.25 a.m. a vehicle driven by Gerald Cousineau, London left County road 14 and rolled over. Constable Chapman set damages at $3,000. Corporal T.W. Collins set damages at $4,000 when vehicles driven by Leonard Fisher, Ilderton and David Johnson RR 3, Denfield collided at 5.20 p.m. Friday on Main street in Ilderton. The same day at 8.15 p.m. a vehicle driven by Terry Spruytte, RR 2, Lucan left the roadway of Concession 2 and 3 in McGillivray township and rolled over. Constable Chapman set damages at $700. At 6.10 p.m. Friday Constable W.R. Disher listed damages at $1,500 as the result of an accident on Highway 7, just west of Highway 23. A pickup truck driven by Jeanette Ovens. RR 2, Lucan was pulling a tractor-trailer driven by her husband when both vehicles went into the ditch. A vehicle driven by Earl Crowe, Bright was damaged to the extent of $3,000 when it struck a utility pole on County road 28 at Arva. Constable Disher was the in- vestigating officer. first the Greens had a 4-3 lead as Gord Moon added his second, Gary Miller backhanded a shot over Keith Ewer's shoulder and Rick Gwalchmai added the first of his three goals. During a quiet second period Chris Mouritzen scored for Salon 174 to even the score at four. Again the teams opened up and Salon 174 won the battle as they scored four times. Don Lankin gave Salon the lead for good as he pushed the puck by Garrison. Scott Anderson added his second of the game before Rick Gwalchmai brought the Greens within one. Chris Mouritzen completed his hat-trick for Salon 174, two minutes before Gwalchmai added his third, Salon 174's insurance goal came on a solo effort by Don Murray as he fought his way down the boards, eluding three players, before he one handed the puck into the net. The second game was completely different as the teams turned to defence. Both goalies, Phil Vousden and Chuck Fredin, had shut outs going until there was seven minutes remaining in the game. Brad Taylor, last years' scoring champ, open- ed the scoring as he beat Vousden on a breakaway Mike Wraith evened the count at one on a double give and take play with George Ewer as he caught Chuck Fredin out of the play. With only four minutes remain- ing, Gary Revington ripped a shot past Vousden into the corner but then with only 39 seconds left, George Ewer tied the game 2-2 on a scramble in front of the net. During the last 21 seconds, the Hagen Hackers had am- ple chances in the Blues end but Vousden, with a couple of key glove saves, held the game to a tie.
