The weather was good but the winds made the water rough. Fishing was pretty good. The scenery was lovely. Friendships were renewed with people from Pennsylvania. Mr. and Mrs. Leeland Restemayer accompanied by Mr. and Mrs, Earl Weiberg of London spent the weekend there, Seniors entertained On Monday, September 17, the choir from Huronview entertained the Dashwood Senior Citizens with a very enjoyable program. There were 46 members and two visitors present. The fall rally will be held at Clinton Legion Hall October 17 with registration at 9:30 a.m. and lunch provided. A trip to Simcoe to see the Christmas decorations is being planned for December 12. A donation of $200 was given to the Community Centre and a variety program is being planned for sometime in the fall for the public, Begin needlepoint The Dashwood 4-H Club 2 started its fall project "Needlepoint" September 20th with Mrs. Ray Rader and Mrs. Earl Keller, leaders. Officers are president, Judith Mellecke; Vice-president, Janet Regier; secretary, Kim Kipfer and Sandra Deters, press reporter. Different types of canvas, needles and yarn were discussed. The leaders told about requirements for the project. The girls put masking tape on the edges of the mesh canvas that was supplied and also drew pencil markings. Personals Friends, neighbors and relatives would like to congratulate Toni and Shirley Martene who are celebrating their 25 Wedding anniversary Friday Sep- tember 28 with a dance at Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maguire entertained at their home in Southcott Pines following the baptism. Besides their two sons David and Thomas present were Pastor and Mrs. M. Fifty-five members of the family of the late Wm. Becker family gathered at Dashwood Community Centre Saturday Sept. 22 for their annual reunion. Joy works on banner Joy the youth of Zion Lutheran Church held their meeting September 16 with Elise Vandeworp opening with a prayer followed by Bible Study. Elise displayed the banner they are making and which will be presented to the United Church when finished. They also plan to donate something to the new church. Plans were com- pleted for attending camp Pioneer Weekend Retreat. Sandra Datars closed the meeting with a prayer. Persona Is Mrs, Pearl Miller gave an interesting report on the convention which she at- tended in Kingston. The next meeting will be held October 15 with group 6 in charge. Mr. and Mrs, Cliff Penhale attended the Willert- Merchant wedding at St. George Anglican Church, Willowdale and the reception at Uplands Golf and Country Club, Thornhill. Mrs. Amelia Willert is a patient in University Hopital, London. Mr, and Mrs. Paul Rader and Ben, London, were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rader, Pastor Maye Mellecke and Charles Martene, chairman of the Stewardship com- mittee of Zion Lutheran Church attended the District Work Program Conference at Kitchener Friday and iSatur day. Thomas Ryan, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maguire was baptized Sunday by Rev. M. Mellecke. Mr. and Mrs. Brad Oke were sponsors. Jayne Hayter sang a solo "This child We Dedicate to Thee for her nephew . By MRS. E. SUMMERS GRANTON Mrs. James Kerr was the hostess for the September meeting of the Granton W.I. Tuesday evening Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins presided and opened the meeting with the W.I. Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and the Lord's Prayer. The roll call was answered by the members relating what they had learned from the younger generation. During the business session a number of items were taken care of, such as suggestions for courses in connection with Fanshawe College London, which will be starting in Lucan. A resolution on the closing of hospital beds was read, and discussed, and will be voted on at the next meeting. Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins gave an informative report on the district rally with the theme "Today's Child" held at Strathroy this summer. Mrs. Elmer Summers enlarged on the Motto which was. "Culture is the cream in our coffee", saying, cream was used to enrich our coffee, and by the same token we enrich our lives with Culture. The guest speaker was Don Middleton of Toronto, National Chairman of the Foster Parents Plan in Canada. Don talked about his involvement with this organization and then showed a film, entitled "I heard a child cry" which illustrated the work being done by plan in the Philip- pines. It was the story of a mother deserted by her husband and left with a family of small children, living in deplorable con- ditions, until one little girl was adopted by a foster parent, this meant that the whole family would receive medical care, schooling, financial help and other benifits. Mrs. Elmer Harlton thanked Don for enlightening the members with his talk and film. Mrs. Harlton also had some more program, such as some advice on energy saving, these were withdrawn as the meeting was running quite late. Following the Institute grace. 4-H news The first meeting of the Granton 4-11 Club group (1) "Accessories the final Touch" was held at the home of Rosanne St. Dennis, September 12. A discussion on the books for this club took place, and a look at one of the books from a previous club, to get some ideas. Next the girls talked about, average, tall and full figured, short and full figured and small andpetite sizes, and decided what color looked best on each member. After some work on the books, the meeting closed with the 4-H Motto. Leaders for this club are Mrs. Dennis St. Dennis and Mavis Harm- sworth, secretary and press reporter for this meeting was Rosanne St. Dennis. The second meeting was held at the home of Mavis Harmsworth Assistant leader September 20, Debbie Lascelles, president opened the meeting with- 4-H Pledge, followed by a discussion on the careand selection of hats, then each member tried on different hats while the rest decided what looked best on each one. Michelle Malcolm then showed the girls what was in her sewing box. The leaders explained what each thing was used for Mavis Harmsworth told about the kinds of fabric, and what they were made of, also discussed the meaning of interfacing and fusing, and what was used on different materials. The girls talked about what they wanted to make for their accessory, and other ideas they had. The meeting closed with the 4-H Motto, and the next meeting was announced for Saturday September 29 at 10 a.m. at the home of Mavis Harm- sworth. Church news At St. Thomas Anglican Church, Rev. Herbert Horsey of Stratford was the guest minister in the absence of Rev. Mary Mills who is still not well enough to return to her pulpit. Rev. Horsey took his sermon from the 2nd chapter of Job and Peter chapter 1. Describing Job as a honest man who feared God and shunned evil. At the United Church Sunday morning Controller Art Cartier of London was the guest speaker, in the absence of Rev. Elwood Morden, who was attending the dedication service of the new memorial windows at Brown's United Church of which he was a former minister. Mr, Cartier entitled his message "Brotherhood", saying -In Christ there is no East or West, The speaker recalled a hymn of his childhood that went like this, to the tune of Onward Christian Soldiers. "Onward Christian people, take my hand my brother, give me your hand too. Personals Get Well wishes are ex- tended to Cecil Bowman, who is a patient in St. Marys Memorial Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, David and John at- tended the Taylor-Jones wedding at Crumlin United Church Saturday. Wishes for a speedy recovery are extended to Gary Jones who is recovering from surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital Lon- don. We are happy to report that Mrs. Wilma Beaucage is now home from a long stay in University Hospital London, and wish her continued good health. Speedy recovery wished Douglas Anderson who is recovering from an accident at University hospital, London. Harry Foster is still in the Burn Unit at Victoria Hospital London, best wishes are extended to him for his recovery. We are happy to report that Elmer Summers has returned home from St Joseph's hospital after surgery, best wishes for continued good health. By MRS. HEBER DAVIS ,QAINTSBURY September 14 the congregation of St. Patrick's church held a chicken barbecue. They served 255 to a delicious meal. The ladies are selling tickets on a Dresden Plate quilt, plates on white with a blue strip. The lucky quilt ticket will be drawn at a progressive euchre, November 30. Tickets are available from the mem- bers. Mr. and Mrs. Sid Davis Huntsville, visited their cousins Mr. and Mrs. Heber Davis last week. While here they visited Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Davis, London and Mr, and Mrs. Clarence Davis visited with them at Heber's they also visited Mrs. Carrie "Davis" McGavin in the hospital in Seaf orth . Service at St. Patricks church Sunday morning was conducted by Rev. Herb, Horsey, Stratford. Next Sunday Mr. Walter Vassie, Kitchener will be guest preacher at the Harvest Thanksgiving service at 11 a.m. Miss Jean Barker, nurse in training at Victoria Hospital spend the week-end with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barker. Ron Cunningham, Wiarton, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Tindall and family. The Tindall family took their 4 Belgian horses to the Rodney Fall Fair, Wed- nesday and also to the parade and fair in Exeter, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Greenlee were Sunday evening dinner guests with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Heber Davis. Bill Hicks and George Miller, Clio, Michigan were Sunday evening, dinner guests with their ,cousins Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis.
