Institute talks of new products
The Catholic Women's
League met Monday evening
at the Alhambra hall with 18
attending, President,
Roberta Walker, presided,
She thanked the ladies who
had prOided fresh flowers
for the church altar during
the summer. It was an-
nounced that the two bake
sales they had in August
netted over $400.00.
A Deanery meeting is to be
held at the John Fisher
school in Forest, Oct, 17.

which includes Bible
readings and prayers and
will be left at the Alhambra
hall for the ladies to use. A

tribution has been assigned

life.
The ladies discussed the
changing role of family life
in Canada, which was given
in a quarterly report by
Barbara Frum on T.V. last
week.
A house in Thedford has
been secured for a family of
boat people, which the group
are sponsoring, This week
the ladies cleaned the house
and a list of house fur-
nishings have been donated,
A number for the up-
coming Ecumenical being
held at Greenway October
4th, 7.30 p.m, was discussed.
Next meeting will be
October 22 with Group A in
charge of lunch.
Hold baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism
was held Sunday at Grand
Bend United church when
Lisa Eileen, daughter of
David and Deborah (nee
Peterson) Desjardine, and
Jillian Florence, daughter of
Douglas and Ann (nee
Sturdevant) Russell, were
baptized.
Rev. H. Moore's sermon
topic was "Life's most
difficult question." Scripture
reading was taken from John
21st chapter, verses 15-23.
The Sunday school
children and teachers at-
tended the first part of the
service held today,
Flowers decorating the
United Church sanctuary
today were placed in loving
memory of Adolphus Allen,
who passed away last week,
It was announced that
Grand Bend United church's
offering to help the Oxford
Tornado Relief fund totalled
$1092.85.
The session of the Grand
Bend United Church will
meet on Wednesday Sept. 26
at 8.00 p.m. in the Minister's
Study at the church.

women won second prize at
Exeter fair for their entry of
a table setting com-
memorating the 125th an-
niversary of Exeter fair, The
exhibit consisted of a table
covering, place setting for
one, floral arrangement wall
hanging and an invitation.

Rev. William Craven, of
Goderich is conducting
services at St. John's by the
lake Anglican church, during
the absence of Rev. G.
Anderson who is on holiday
in England for two weeks.
Mr. Craven chose as his
text the third verse from the
second letter of St, Paul to
the Thessalonians and
stressed the point to have us
remember the great per-
secution of Christians in
early ages.
Mr. and Mrs., Bert Neilson
served during 'the coffee
hour after the morning
service.
The ladies group at St.
John's are making plans for
a progressive euchre party
on October 18.
Erosion
control
A $385,550 provincial grant
will assist the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation
Authority in undertaking
erosion control works along
the Ausable River in the
Village of Grand Bend.
The erosion control
measures are designed to
protect residential and
commercial properties at
selected sites adjacent to the
Old Ausable River.
In announcing the grant,
Natural Resources Minister
James Auld said that the
remedial works will be
undertaken in phases over a
ten year period commencing
in 1979 at a total estimated
cost of $/01,000.
All members of 4-H Club
no 2, met Tuesday night in
the Grand Bend town hall.
'Roll call was answered by
"Name your favourite color,
and what colors you would
put with it to make a color
scheme," Name the color
scheme.
The girls work period was
spent doing cross stitch and
Bargello stitch.
The club name they
decided on is the "Rolling
Coasters."
The next meeting will be
October 2nd,.7 p.m. at leader
Marg Desjardine's home.
One article the girls are
working on is coasters to set
glasses or cups on.
Learn needlepoint
stitches
Grand Bend 4-H club no 1
met Wednesday evening at
Margaret Smits home with
13 girls attending.
They were learning the
Continental and Gobelin
stitches in Needlepoint.
The club name they have
chosen is "Nifty Needlers",
and they are working on
Congratulations to Larry
and Donna Lovie on the birth
of a baby boy last week. A
brother for two little sisters.
Annie Morenz attended the
Huron-Perth Presbytery
executive meeting,
representing Grand Bend
United church, held at
Hensall last Monday night.
Bill Maier and friends, of
Mio, Michigan, spent last
week end in Grand Bend,
visiting his Morenz cousins,
design covers for their
Record books.
Next meeting to be held at
the home of Susan
Hemingway. Reported by

Womens Institute
Fifteen ladies met
other relatives and friends.
Congratulations to Don
and Betty Flear on their 25th
wedding anniversary. They
held Open House, Sunday,
Mr. and Mrs. Louie
Walker, of Pontiac Michigan
visited a few days last week
at their daughter's, Rev, and
Mrs, John Campbell, Laura
Lee and Douglas. The
Walker's celebrated their
53rd wedding anniversary.
Thursday evening in the S.S.
rooms of the United church
for the September meeting
on Family and Consumer
affairs,with Ann Russell as
convener,
Ann demonstrated the
heart monitor used on young
babies, on her own two
month old daughter Jill.
Roll call was answered by
"A new product I have used
and liked."
Motto was, "The reason a
dollar d6esn't do as much as
it used to,people don't either.
Lunch hostesses were
Sharon Miller and Millie
Des jardine.
An invitation was ac-
cepted from Dashwood W.I.
to attend their meeting on
the evening of October 2nd.
Arthritis is twinges in
the hinges,
Damage was estimated at
$1000 in a freak accident
when a car engine fell off the
back of a truck and was
struck by another car on
highway 21, just north of
Lambton County Road 5. The
Pinery Park detachment of
the Ontario Provincial
Police investigated the
accident which took place
Friday,
Driver of the car was
Marie Kirouac of Detroit,
Michigan. The truck from
which the car engine fell was
driven by John Leckie of
Lucan. There were no in-
juries.
The Pinery OPP laid six
charges under the Liquor
Licence Act, and in-
vestigated two other liquor
problems during the week of
September 16 to 22. One
person was charged under
the provincial parks act, six
people were charged under
the highway traffic act, Ole
impaired driver was
charged. There were four
criminal code charges laid,
and one narcotic control act
charge.
The detachment handled
six criminal code in-
vestigations, and five
requests for assistance,
