President, Eleanor Durie opened with a poem. Eighteen ladies answered the roll call by telling, "Assets of good leader." The Thanksgiving ecumenical will be held at Greenway October 4, 7:30 p.m. The fall Regional is to be held at Elimville United Church October 9th at 9:30 a.m. Marjorie Mason conducted the worship service which opened by all singing the hymn "Love Devine." Scripture passages from Acts and Corinthians was read responsively. In the meditation period she read the story a "Por- trait of a Christian," which was written in 1944. She told us a true Christian is always a pioneer. The worship closed by all singing, "What a friend we have in Jesus." At this time the president introduced our guest speaker Mrs. Grace Pym, of Elim- ville who has the office of Leadership Development for South Huron Presbytery. She discussed kinds, qualities and assets of leaders. She told us a good leader does not do the work of ten women, but has ten women working for her. She asked "Do we give all members an opportunity to express themselves?" We should be a good listener and learn to be a talent scout. God has a purpose for each one of us. We should encourage members to attend regionals, Westminster weekend and Alma school for women. Lunch hostesses in the social time were Clara Hamilton and Lillian Brown. United Church news Rev. H. Moore's sermon topic was "One thing more". The scripture was taken from 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13. The lovely choir anthem today was the "Beautiful garden of prayer." Presbytery will be held at the United Church in St. Marys on Tuesday Sep- tember 25th at 9:30 a.m. World Wide Communion will be observed October 7th, Thanksgiving Sunday. On October 13th an Open Session Workshop under World Outreach, Division of Mission and Stewardship Committees, will be held at Parkview United Church, Stratford. Theme; Oppor- tunity now. The training Session is from 9 a.m. to noon. The open Session noon to 4:30p.m. Everyone is welcome. Church of God news Church of God ladies held their September meeting at the church Thursday evening, with eleven ladies answering the roll call by bringing useful items for the church kitchen. Dorothy MacGregor conducted the worship on the theme Harvest-Hunger. Betty Campbell gave a study talk on the Church camp held in the summer and also on missions in Japan. Vice president, Dorothy MacGregor conducted the business. Lunch hostess was Lucille Vincent. Liz Mavity was the overall winner of the match play tournament and was presented a trophy by Rollie's pro shop. "A" flight won by Viki Taylor, runner up was Helen Davidson, "B" flight won by Liz Mavity, runner up was Harriet Wilson. "C" flight won by Marian McFadden, runner up was Peg McFadzean. Most improved during the season were Nan Cumming and Edna Marshall. "Ringer" prizes - "A" group awarded to Viki Taylor and Olga Keay for gross. Los net to Betty Tim- merman and Mary Ferguson. "B" group - Nan Cumming and Mary Wallen for gross. "C" group - Isobel Wilson and Marvel Barton for gross. Low net - Marian McFadden, Peg McFadzean and Trudy McParlan. The newly elected officers for next season are - president - Vera Morrison; captain - Viki Taylor; co- captain - Harriet Wilson; secretary treasurer - Dorinda McLeod; handicap chairman - Nan Cumming and ringer chairman - Elsie Inglis. 4-H club news Grand Bend 4-H club number 2 met Wednesday night at Karen Woods' home. Eight girls answered the roll call by "Showing a design of an idea for a needlepoint free choice article." Margie Larkin was elected 1st vice president. A club name was discussed but not decided yet. They learned how to graph their initial, also doing the Continental and Gobelin stitch. Next meeting to be at Christine Boogeman's home, Tuesday night at 7 p.m. 4-H elects officers Grand Bend 4-H club number 1 met last Tuesday evening for their organization meeting at leader Rita Smits home, Assistant leader is Margaret Smits. Officers elected for this club were president - Trish Vandenbygaard; vice president - Rose Van- denberk; secretary - to be rotating and press reporter is Liz Martens. The leaders demonstrated how to line out the blocks on canvas and the kind of yarn to get for their Needlepoint. W.I, to meet The first fall meeting of Grand Bend Women's Institute will be held Thursday evening 7:30 p.m. in the sunday school rooms of the United church. The topic will be Family and Consumer affairs with convener Ann Russell in charge. Ann will be demonstrating a heart monitor used on young babies that detect stoppage of their breathing. Roll Call will be, A new product I have used and liked. Couples meet The Grand Bend Couples Club met Saturday p.m. in the Sunday school rooms at the United church. Theme- International year of the child. Their time was spent discussing rights of children, and a project to help a child or children. Committee in charge were Jean and Don Weigand, Donna and Larry Lovie and Marlene and Fred Desjar- dine. The meeting closed with lunch refreshments served. The next meeting will be held at the regular time of the second Saturday in October. Grand Bend Library news Don't forget! A lady speaker is coming, Sep- tember 20th at 8:00 p.m. from the Royal Ontario Museum, to speak on Vic- torian Arts and crafts at Grand Bend Library, She will be showing slides and commentary and will have a few articles with her for viewing.
