Individually Priced
Consider this school lunch-
box: a vacuum bottle of
Vichyssoise soup, a few
pieces of crispy chicken; two
little plastic containers of
coleslaw and fruit salad; and
a buttered, crusty roll.
Adult's view of this lunch:
nourishing, appetizing,
satisfying,
Schooler's view of the
same lunch: dumb.
Why? First of all, no one
would be caught dead
chewing on a chicken leg in
the cafeteria, Who has the
time for all that anyway, on
a thirty-minute lunch in-
cluding two locker stops?
Besides, this lunch is sissy -
children's attitudes to lunch
are different from adults.
Lunch is like the school
uniform; it has to look right.
A good lunch should
contain something from each
of the four main food groups:
a protein food (probably the
sandwich filling), bread (the
sandwich again), fruit or
vegetable (ideally both), and
milk.
The wrapping around the
sandwich filling doesn't
always ' have to be white
bread. Use whole wheat
rolls, sesame buns, sub-
marines, bagels, muffins,
crackers, and a variety of
breads, rye, pumpernickel,
malt, cheese, cracked wheat
and oatmeal. Combine two
kinds of bread in one sand-
wich.
Here are a few examples
of "balanced" lunches: -
double-decker sandwich with
checken and egg salad on
round malt loaf; celery
sticks and cherry tomatoes;
granola bars; apple; milk.
- bagel with cream cheese,
sliced beef or ham; green
pepper sticks, grapes, oat-
meal cookies with datefilling,
tomato juice.
- buttered whole wheat
muffins or carrot bread;
chunk of cheddar; hard-
cooked egg; celery stuffed
with peanut butter; peach;
milk.
But how do you keep hot
foods and cold foods safely?

yogurt. It will keep hot food
hot, above 140 F, and cold
foods cold, below 40 F. The
temperatures in between are
dangerous because harmful
bacteria grow most easily in
this range,

Love to dance? Then Barb
Westman might just be
able to help!
On Thursday, September
26, Barb will be taking
registration for dancing
lessons to be given here in
Exeter this fall and winter.
While Ballet and Tap lessons
will be featured, particularly
for the younger people, other
type of dance including
modern, jazz and disco will
be taught if there are enough
interested adults,
The dance lessons are
organized under the auspices
of the South Huron
Recreation Board and will be
held at the South Huron
Recreation Centre.
Miss Westman is a 20-
year-old native of Kirkton, is
well qualified to teach dance.
She is a member at the
Academy of Ballet, received
honors from the A.W.C.B.
and was awarded a gold
medal from the Western
Conservatory of Dance.
Barb has worked as
choreographer for London
Theatres and has danced
with Froshinn dancers on
Los Angeles.
She feels that ballet
lessons help a child with
grace and poise while tap
develops style and rhythm.
Modern jazz and disco dan-
cing are good for fun and
health for adults.
An advertisement in-
cluding details of the dance
lessons can be found
elsewhere in this newspaper
and information can be
obtained by calling the South
Huron Recreation office at
235-2833.
