Odds `n ends
Some common scents
romantic scents shows
that she has a man at the
centre of her life.
6. Door-to-door fragrances
for example, avon and
fuller brush; are worn by a
woman who is sure of
herself and comfortable
where she is,
f: Unfortunately I can't
remember the label given
to the seventh class, but
they are perfumes worn by
independent hardworking
women, who are strongly
dedicated to any cause
they adopt.
The radio report left several
questions unanswered. How
many women were sur-
veyed? How long did the
study take? On what
hypotheses were the con-
clusions based? Why was the
study undertaken? What will
the information be used for?
The most important
question is, in my opinion,
does the psychologist plan a
similar study into the types
of aftershaving lotions used
by men.
The findings of such a
survey would be invaluable,
if only to add fuel to the fire
of comediennes'
monologues.

Some stand-up comedians
make a living by poking fun
at their wives. Their
monologues include jokes
about the nagging spouse,
the ugly wife and the fat
lady. In a discussion of the
wife, the mother-in-law is
seldom forgotten.
The comedian uses
exaggeration to make his
story funny. For example, he
describes the scary night
time scene of mud packs,
cold cream, curlers and
rollers.
He says a secretary, for
instance, can't type or an-
swer the phone because she
spends the afternoon "doing
her nails."
He also uses the line about
waiting for an hour and a
half for his date to get ready,
and when she finally
emerges, she looks the same
to him as when she left.
After reaching a
restaurant, he claims the
first thing his date does is go
to the ladies' room to
"powder her nose," and he
complains that he spends
most of the evening alone
because she's busy touching
up her make up.
I'm sure professional
comedians (and amateurs
too) will have a field day
when they learn of a study
conducted by a female
psychologist at UCLA on
women and the perfume they
wear
She concludes that you can
tell a lot about a woman by
the perfume she uses. The
Mrs. Nora Sheldon of
Croswell Michigan and Mrs.
Loreta Bradley, Yale,
Michigan visited a few days
last week with Mrs. Mary
Thomson, Andrew St.
Wednesday they called on
relatives in Kirkton, St.
Marys, Woodham and
Thames Road areas.
Mr. and Mrs. Dave
Milliken, Sara and Wendy,
Sarnia and Mr, and Mrs.
William Rohde, Thames
Road were Sunday supper
guests with Rev. Stewart and
Mrs. Miner.
Emmerson Davis, Victoria
B.C. and Lawrence Beckett,
Woodham called recently on
Mrs. Myrtle Gunning and
Muriel.
Mrs. Margaret Coombes is
in University Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. John R.

their mother, Mrs. Lela

home at Oakwood, on her
80th birthday.

Seniors will
open sessions
The Exeter senior citizens
will open their fall program
with a pot luck supper on the
evening of September 12 at
5:30 p.m. in the Legion hall
in Exeter.
Everyone is asked to bring
along plates, silverware and
cups in addition to food,
following are seven
classifications into which her
findings were divided. (They
may not be exact but are as
close as I can recall after
hearing a radio report.)
1. A liberated scent, such as
Charlie, is worn by a
career-oriented woman.
2. A classic perfume, such as
Chanel Number 5, ik the
choice of a conservative
female.
3, A woman who wears an
exotic fragrance can be
expected to do the unex-
pected.
4. The fourth category is
labelled "French designer
perfumes" and a lady
wearing those fragrances
is fashion conscious and
has exquisite taste.
5. A woman who chooses
Lila Hodgins, London, Mrs.
Hazel Snell Exeter and Mrs.
Bessie Case, alife-longfriend.
Mrs. Kestle received many
lovely gifts and flowers. A
turkey dinner concluded the
event.
