By MRS. HUGH MORENZ
Mary Lynne Hamilton has
returned home from
Kererneos, B.C., where she
enrolled as a member in the
"Outward Bound Survival
Course", which was a 26 day
experience. She reports on
returning that the Course
was a lifetime experience for
her. One is filled with
emotion that life possesses.
'Fear, which we all went
thru and came out with
courage.
•Anger, that ripped at all of
us but was with held with
respect.
Exhaustion, we all ex-
perienced but pushed on to
reach the top.
•Considera don for other
people we managed well.
• Friendships we built will
be life-time precious stones.
'Tears, some of us dropped
for Joy at seeing our first
summit.
•Happiness, we shared with
each other that can never be
replaced by anything else.
Peacefulness, we shared
on our 2 day solo, only to be
re-united together again for
more experience with nature
and mountains.
Mountain climbing, with a
40 lb. pack, is a traumatic
accomplishment. Our
highest mountain was Mount
Remmel 8,695 feet. I ex-.
perienced Hell and Heaven
all in one day. It was hell
climbing but heaven at the
top. "
Mary Lynne camped
overnight on the summit.
Daybreak was emotional,
the sun rising and she could
reach up and see and touch
the clouds riding by.
The motto of this course is,
"To serve to strive and not to
yield,"
As she sat on the summit of
Mt. Remmel she couldn't
help but think of her sister
Elizabeth Kennedy, who two
years previous experienced
"Outward Bounds" these
lines came to her -"We have
shared! We have strived, We
have served, and not yielded,
we have lived,"
Bridge game winners

Special speaker
Special speaker at the
United church outdoor
service, Sunday morning,
was Mrs. Evelyn Krueger, of
Owen Sound. Evelyn was
born and raised in this area.
Soloist was Roberta
Walker, singing "The
Impossible dream", and
"Lord Jesus of you I will
sing," The latter solo was
sung with two verses in
French and two in English.
Referring to Canada as a
bilingual country, this song
fit in so appropriately on the
day of the funeral service in
Ottawa for Hon. John G.
Diefenbaker, former Prime
Minister of Canada, who had
such hopes and dreams for a
United Canada.
The hymn sing was led by
Millie Desjardine. Next
Sunday August 26, Robert
Hollingsworth, of Peter-
borough, a gospel singer and
lay preacher will be leading
the United church morning
worship service.
Play ball!
Church of God young
people met Thursday
evening, with 12 in at-
tendance for a game of soft
ball at the school grounds.
After the ball game they
met at the church where
Rev, John Campbell led in
devotions. This was followed
by a hot dog barbecue and
muskmelons for dessert. The
young folks presented Doug
Steckle with a gift. Doug is
leaving shortly to attend the
Alberta Bible Institute.
At the morning service at
Church of God a special love
offering was taken to help
Doug.
A solo, "This is the time I
must sing," was rendered by
Doug Steckle.

each other and to housework
since we splurged on new
appliances.
Our old stove was one of
the first that Westinghouse
ever made, but it wasn't
quite old enough to interest
an antique dealer. Wheti the
oven went "kaput" we
decided to invest in a new
range. The old frig was
pretty small, too, so it was
replaced. Our parents were
good enough to give us
wedding presents of money
for a washer and dryer, and
since we were buying four
appliances we decided to get
a dishwasher, too,
Believe me, not having to
bake in an oven that doesn't
work, not having to
rearrange the interior of the
frig every time you want a
glass of milk, not having to
pack up and go to a laundro-
mat, and not having to look
at a pile of dirty dishes in the
sink can really improve your
marriage.
You see, prior to the new
appliances, we did oc-
casionally bicker over who
would do the household
chores. Dishes were a major
item, and laundry was the
other. But neither one of us
ever had to go to the laundry
mat alone.
It's not because we're one
of those happy jolly couples
that has to do everything
together. It's because if I
went to the laundromat by
myself, I wouldn't fold his T-
shirts right, and if he went by
himself, he wouldn't bother
to put my d"esses on
hangers.
With the new appliances,
all we have left to argue
about is making the bed and
taking out the garbage. We
have friends that we envied
because they said they never
argued about household
chores. Everything was 50-50
with this happily married
couple--each one had their
portion of the housework to
do, and they never fought
about anything as mundane
as garbage or dirty dishes,
It was too good to be true.
And then one evening the
bubble burst. They don't
fight about squeezing tooth
paste tubes like other people--

GRAND BEND
You feel as if you're
staring into the faces of one
big, happy family, They
certainly look enough alike
to be a family, and the
talking and teasing seems
like sibling treatment.
And they are a family--if
only for a month. After two
weeks of rehearsal and
another two weeks of
productions, the children in
The Sound of Music will
probably feel like a family.
The six children were chosen
locally during auditions in
April, and they range in age
from eight to 14.
They are playing the roles
of the younger members of

For the local youngsters,
playing the Von Trapp
family has given them a
chance to work with
professionals on the stage.
The children say that
they've learned many
things--such as how to
breathe, and how to open their
mouths and speak clearly.
They have also been told not
to put their backs to the
audience, and not to upstage
someone else, they say.
The Sound of Music is the
biggest production ever.
attempted by Huron Country
Playhouse. There will be a
cast of 25, with five different
stage settings. Most
characters in the play wear
several different costumes.
The children change seven
times during the play. A full
orchestra will be ac-
companying the singing.
Tickets were sold out for
the regular showings in
June. Two preview per-
formances were added for
last night and this afternoon.
No orchestra will be on hand
for the previews. Some rush
seats may still be available
for the two week run.
