From the Producer of "NahohAl lamponn's ANIMAL HOUSE'
BILLMURRAY,
Renters of the hall at the
South Huron Recreation
Centre will pay a deposit at
the time they book the
facility, the centre's board
decided at their monthly
meeting Monday.
Recreation administrator
Ian Smith suggested the
move to protect the centre if
a booking was cancelled with
little notice.
Smith suggested that the
deposit of $25 would be
returned if the hall could be
rebooked, The deposit would
also be returned if the
cancellation was made three
months ahead of the date
booked.
In a game of give and take,
the board will sell ice time to
the new Exeter entry in the
South Huron Hockey League
at $25 per hour plus a 60/40
split of gate receipts from
post regular season games.
Louis Mitchell of the new
team asked if his team could
have ice time at the $25 per
hour figure rather than $28
per hour.
Mitchell said his club
would be playing 22 home
games and asked if a
discount might not be in
order.
Don Cameron had said he
was worried that the board
could be setting a precident
if the intermediate hockey
club received discounted ice
time.
Smith proposed the 60/40
split which was what the
junior Hawks operated on,
Mayor Derry Boyle
proposed the compromise of
a $25 per hour rental rate and
the split for • the playoff
games with the long time
hockey man saying the
board should take a chance
on the first year club.
Mitchell said he hoped his
club would make the playoffs
and possibly finish in the top
three places.
The rec centre will finally
be properly identified but
who will get the work and
when, is still up in the air.
Acting as a result of a
board request Smith ob-
tained a price for a sign from
' the same company which
manufactured the lettering
for South Huron Hospital.
Exclucti—wthting a similar
he rep centre
would cost $f46..
Boyle moved that capital
funds which had been set
aside for community park
renovations be used for the
sign which would be installed
on the west wall of the hall
and that a quotation from a
local sign manufacturer be
obtained.
When the press refused to
omit the figure already
obtained, Boyle withdrew his
motion and moved that two
quotes for the sign be ob-
tained.
In his report Smith said the
swimming pool should come
well under budget and that
only 14 Saturdays in 1980 for
the hall were left open.
Roller skating was proving
to be very popular Smith
said, with revenues far
ahead of the budget
estimate. He said the Friday
afternoon roller skating
program was proving
popular with the younger
wheel rollers in the com-
munity.
The various trips have
proved to be popular with
only the excursion to the
Blue Jays game being
cancelled due to a lack of
interest. Smith said in 1980
he'll quite likely organize
five or six trips,
In terms of financing the
trips Smith reported they're
a break-even proposition.
In a move that received
approval from the board
Smith said he had ap-
proached several firms in
the community with regards
to the sponsorship of the
centre's activities ad in the
newspaper. To date three
firms have agreed to sponsor
the ad and that if the other
seven are agreeable the rec
centre could save $1,500 a
year in advertising costs.
A copy of a letter which the
town had to send to Jim Ross
over his complaints of ex-
cessive noise from the rec
centre caused board
member Wayne Pearce to
blast the local police force.
Referring to the number of
apparently underage
motorcycle riders who use
the park, Pearce said "If the
police would just shape up
around here."
Stephen representative
Wayne Ratz injected some
humour into the discussion
when he .suggested „"Maybe
we need more for the police
budget and less for
recreation,"
Boyle said there was
nothing the board could do
about the noise and said it
was a police matter.
Smith said he had thought
having speed bumps placed
in the parking lot but Boyle
pointed out this would do
little to deter those who are
making the noise.

GB Anglicans
dedicate new
church window
At the 9:30 a.m. service of
Holy Communion on Sunday
August 19 the new stained
glass window depicting St.
Mark was dedicated to the
glory of God and in loving
memory of Mr. and Mrs.
Colin C. Scatcherd, foun-
dation members of the
Church of St. John by the
Lake. Present were Mr. and
Mrs. David Scatcherd and
other members of the family
as well as an overflowing
congregation. Mr. Scatcherd
was the first Warden of the
Church when it was built
in 1949.
The Rector, the Rev.
George A. Anderson who
conducted the dedication
ceremony was pleased to
introduce the guest preacher
as his son, the Reverend
Kenneth Anderson, who has
recently returned from
Barbados where for two
years he represented the
Anglican Church of Canada
as a tutor to Theological
students at Codrington
College and who now has
been appointed by the Bishop
of Huron as Rector as
Rector of Trinity Church
Lambeth and Christ
Anglican Church, Delaware.
The sermon theme, taken
from Psalm 137, "How can
we sing the Lord's songs in a
strange land?" compared
the different cultures of the
West Indies and Canada
which are vastly different
but still can come together in
the love of Christ.
Mrs, Agnes Todd prepared
the Altar for the day and
Mrs. Lillian Myers presided
at the organ. Hostess for the
coffee hour afterwards was
Mrs. Heather Scovil,
