Continued front front page
including the soccer people
who according to Cameron
are quite pleased with their
pitch on the Canadian
Canners property, north of
Wellington street. Cameron
said they "just didn't want to
be left out of the picture."
Ideally if a pitch was to be
installed, the cattle pens and
sheep barns should be
removed but there was
enough space available if
such a move was not
feasible, Cameron stated.
Terming it a touchy
subject" because of the co-
operation between the
agricultural society and the
town over the years,
Cameron told the board
"Ideally, if these two
buildings were out of there it
would make the best use of
the available land."
Later in the discussion
both Cameron and Boyle
agreed that the agricultural
society must be involved
from the start with Boyle
saying he didn't want to do
anything to offend the group
which sold the property to
the town for $1 in the late
1940's.
Cameron explained,that he
and Boyle were operating in
the capacity as members of
the Exeter recreation
committee which consists of
the five town representatives
on the South Huron rec
board. The rec committee
will co-ordinate the
development of the park
bringing together the soft-
ball and baseball people, the
soccer group and the
agricultural society for fund
raising purposes.
What he and Boyle had
come up with was "total
package" and that the
various groups would pool
the monies which they
raised. The priorities would
not be changed in the event
that one group came up with
sufficient funds for their
particular area of concern,
Cameron stated.
It was important that the
various groups work
together because if not,
"we're back to square one,"
Cameron said.
Board chairman and
Usborne representative Pym
asked several questions of
the Exeter duo among those
being the lack of input from
the townships on the matter,
Times Advocate reporter
and unofficial spokesman for
men's rec softball league
Tom Creech pointed out that
township's residents would
have input into the plan since
several township residents
are involved with the ball
and soccer groups.
In reply to a query from
Boyle, Pym speaking as a
member of the fair board
said he could not see
anything which would upset
his group in the plan as
outlined by Cameron.
Boyle agreed with Ratz
that the continuation of the
agricultural theme for the
park would not hurt. Ratz
wondered if the fair board
might not be interested in up
grading their facilities at the
same time as the park
renovations are being
carried out.
During the course of the
discussion, rec ad-
ministrator Ian Smith
suggested that further work
could be done on the
diamond at Precious Blood
separate school. Smith said
the smaller children could
use this facility.
Cameron agreed, but said
this was a matter which the
board of management should
look at. Boyle said another
area where a children's
diamond could be placed was
on the river flats in the
northeast corner of River-
view Park.
