Early last Wednesday morning thieves broke a CHRISTMAS IN JULY — Leader Matt Goldhawk helps Matthew Reed hang decorations on the Christmas tree at Grand Bend public library. Police investigate shrimp theft window at the restaurant and gained entry. Police believe that an.escape was made by water because much of the food, including packages of 'frozen shrimp, was found in the harbour. Christmas was celebrated in July at Grand Bend Public Library Monday. Par- ticipants in the children's library program were busy decorating a Christmas trre, making life size Christmas cards, and breaking a pinata. Matt Goldhawk of War- wick and Lorrie Sutherland of Strathroy organized the program for children, which has been held at the library for the past three Monday 'mornings. The two leaders are working for the Lambton County Library system under a Young Canada Works grant. About 10 children have 'been active in the program for each session. The children are mostly summer visitors in Gr'and Bend. Sailing That same day a boat owned by Aiphones Denomme of Dashwood was reported stolen. The boat was missing from its dock in the Ausable River. The theft of the boat and motor valued at $2495 is still under in- vestigation. Last Thursday the Pinery detachment of the OPP investigated the theft of 16 gallons of Furadan weed killer. It is contained in white plastic one gallon bottles and is extremely toxic if breathed or ingested. Christmas celebrated at Library Anyone knowing where it might be located is asked to contact the OPP, If found, the public is warned not to touch it, and asked to call the police. Damages were estimated at $1500 in a single car ac- cident on Lambton County Road 3 near Grand Bend July 15. A car driven by Montgomery MacLean of London skidded off the road and hit a sign. Both MacLean and his passenger Elizabeth Brooks were treated for minor injuries at Strathroy Hospital. A car owned , by Todd Desaulniers of Grand Bend was the victim of a hit and run accident. About $600 damage was done to Desaulniers' car while it was parked at The Tenderspot. Grand Bend OPP laid 39 charges under the liquor license act during the week of July 15 to 21, while the Pinery charged 35 people. The Pinery OPP charged 25 people under the provincial parks act, and two under the narcotic control act. One impaired driver was charged, Sergeant J. Crighton of the Grand Bend detachment has asked that visitors be reminded that seat belt laws are applicable in Grand Bend. A gala evening is in the offing at the Huron Country Playhouse on Sunday July 29th, at Grand Bend, The Third Annual International Art Auction, whose proceeds will benefit the Playhouse, Art works to be auctioned at evening celebration BIG AS LIFE — Jill Reed, Stratford, lays still while instructor Lorrie Sutherland traces her out- line to make a life size Christmas card. Mr. John Phillips, formerly of Sotheby's in London, England, and now on the staff of Sotheby-Parke- Bernet in Toronto, will conduct the auction. A select group of art works, limited to one hun- dred in number, will be shown. A representative group of outstanding Canadian artists will be featured together with well known European and American artists. Works by Ken Danby, Robert White, Picasso, Dali and Chagall are being offered. A selec- tion of forty well-known artists will be offered, with a briefing by a very knowledgeable auctioneer. The viewing will start at 5 p.m. followed by the auction which begins at 8:00 p.m. Price of admission is $5.00 which includes the catalogue and a chance for a draw of a silver necklace. There will be no admittance without a catalogue. A "Build Your Own Sandwich Bar" will be available on the premises throughout the evening. Tickets are now on sale in many localities throughout the area and may be pur- chased at the Playhouse. New exhibit planned at Heritage Museum The Lambton Heritage Museum is erecting a se- cond farm machinery building for the housing and display of agricultural im- plements from Lambton's past, The new building will be 60' X 100', and will have maintenance-free siding, Total cost of the building will be covered by a large donation from the Richard Ivey Foundation, a second family bequest, and a matching grant from Win- tario. Once the new museum opened in May 1978, many large implements were offered from around Lamb- ton County. The original farm building at the new museum site quickly became full. Lambton is such a predominately rural County that the buildings tell the major story in the region's development. Inside the main museum building another new exhibit is in the making. The con- struction of an Industrial Display area ) is being fund- ed by a donation from Discount Dave's — Conklin Lumber. The exhibit will outline the various pioneer industries of Lambton County, such as salt, lumber and oil, and pay particular attention to woodworking tools, barn framing, and similar con- struction methods. The 53 year old man is bishop of the Roman Catholic diocese of London. Bishop Sherlock was vacationing at a cottage when the mishap occurred.
