More than 100 attend
Vacation Bible school
"If ye have faith as a grain
of mustard seed" said Jesus
to the crowds. It was in that
kind of faith that Rev. Stan,
C. McDonald opened the
Vacation Bible school at
Hensall United Church last
week, The church was a
"Bee-hive" of activity when
approximately 100 children
and teachers spent the week,
"wheeling along God's way"
through their very suc-
cessful Vacation Bible
School.
The many adventures of
the week were led by an
excellent staff of volunteers
from the church and com-
munity. The school, the first
in Hensall in many years,
was organized and directed
by Rev. Stan. C, McDonald,
minister of the United
Church and took in the
children from the com-
munity and area from four to
thirteen years of age.
Mrs. Shirley Luther led the
children in singing each
morning, assisted by Eric
Luther at the piano. These
action and highly spirited
songs sent the children out
singing into the homes and
the community during the
remainder of the day.
The Bible study, hand
work, craft and games
periods were led by an en-
thusiastic staff of men and
women of the community. In
charge of the different
departments were: Nursery,
Mrs. Janis Bisback, Cathy
Geiger, Julie Mock and
Melissa Veal. Kindergarten,
in charge was Mrs. Pamela
Scotchmer with helpers
Vickie Mann, Mrs. Dianna
Brock, and Joanne Bell.
The Primary Department
was led by Mrs. Barbara
Gackstetter, Mrs. Kathy
Mann, Mrs. Sharon Beaver,
Mrs. Elaine Stebbins and
Mrs. Grace Sararas. The
middle Department leaders
were Mrs. Shirley Luther,
Mrs. Peggy Volland, Mrs.
Peggy Campbell, Joan
Alexander, Mrs. Bev Bell,
Mrs. Florence Slade and
Glen Slade. Junior Depart-
ment was in charge of Stan
McDonald, Eric Mansfield,
Scott Jesney and Mrs. Joyce
Pepper. Miss Sylvia Merner
and Mrs. Helen Tinney
worked on the registration.
Expenses have not yet been
met,
On Friday morning,
parents and the community
were invited to view the
work of the various depart-
ments, hear the singing and
the story of their week's
study through a short
programme. Wall plaques,
banners, waste paper
baskets, book-marks, book
covers were among the
projects finished and
proudly taken home for the
family to share. The
programme ended by all
being served freshie and
cookies in thefellowship Hall
by the United Church
Women.

United Church
The Sunday service at the
United Church was - led by
Rev. Stan. C. McDonald with
Mr. Brian Dickenson of
Stratford at the organ. Mrs.
Shirley Luther sang, "How
sweet the name of Jesus
sounds" with Eric Luther
accompaning ,on the piano
and Rev. McDonald
preached on, "Our Christian
Perspective". The Church of
today need to wake-up; it is
weak and trailing too often
when it should be applying
itself to the problems of
today. The Church must
think, speak and act
positively, to pray and to be
a church of strength un-
failingly.
The children's story was
about the honey bee; the
honey bees of christianity
are to be honest, truthful,
cheerful and reverent.
Holy Baptism will be held
at the service next Sunday.
Parents with children, to
present for baptism are
reminded to get in touch with
the minister after Thursday,
