School, Biddulph. Congratulations to all graduates, The draw for the quilt and afgan sponsored by the Clandeboye Women's Institute was held at Carter's General Store Saturday afternoon. The quilt was won by Julie Beswarick of Oak Street, Lucan and the Afghan went to Arlene Noonan, RR 2 Lucan, who is a member of the Clandeboye W.I. Proceeds from this project amounted to a little over $400.00. We welcome David and Bonnie Hotson and their two children to the village. They have purchased the home of Mrs. Florence Simpson, who due to ill health is a patient in the Delaware Nursing Home. Mrs. Cheryl Carroll provided music for the opening hymn, Mrs. Marguerite Greenlee led in prayer remembering our rector Rev. Mary Mills, a patient in Memorial hospital, St. Marys. Mary Davis read the meditation and Hazel Davis read a poem entitled "Reasons for life," Marg Greenlee introduced Mrs. Marg Howell London, convened of Bales for the Diocese of Huron who spoke on and showed slides of a trip she took to visit Bear Lake an Indian Outpost in nor- thern Ontario. She displayed Indian bead work and baskets and held the gathering spell bound, She also spoke briefly on the "Byron Bog". Mrs. Greenlee thanked her and presented her with a gift in appreciation. Following grace the hostess assisted by several ladies served tea. Ladies were present from Elizabeth Knight of Rodney. Clint Hodgins is a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Those attending from this area, the Jesus 79, held on the week-end at Carlisle, near Hamilton included the Kestle family, Kevin Cun- ningham, Michael Arm- strong, Sylvia, Jackie, Rachel and Marcel Rosch, Judy, James and Megan Henry and Carol Murray as well as many from Lucan and district, Stephen and Wendy Carter and Jerry and Lorie Morgan spent the week-end at Cedar Point, Michigan. Mrs. Pat Davidson, Sherri, Judy, and Rick have moved to London from the village. Clarence Carter had a close call on Friday while delivering a full tank of fuel to a customer at the Byron Gravel Pit. The brakes failed to hold on his truck while going down a steep incline. He turned sharply into a pile of gravel causing the truck to turn on its side, rather than take the chance of dropping the truck over a 75 ft. stretch ahead. He escaped unhurt with minor damage to his truck, Exeter, Lucan and Granton. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Greenlee attended the baseball tournament in London Saturday with the "Sod Busters" from the Lucan area and spent the week-end with a group at a lake camp. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Davis were guests Saturday evening with Reeve Wilson and Mrs Hodgins and deputy Reeve Jam and Mrs Shipley at a barbecue at the Shipley home. WILLIAM ROHDE THAMES ROAD Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hargreaves at- tended the farewell for the Agriculture Representative for Oxford County Don Taylor and his wife at the Oxford Auditorium Wood- stock fair grounds where over 1,000 people from all over the province in their honour. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Hargreaves attended the funeral Wednesday for the, late Mary McInally at Mt. Elgin United Church where more than 40 ministers formed a guard of honour. The late Miss McInally was a former minister at the Granton charge and was also a Missionary atTrinidad. Mr. Keith Ramashwar student minister on the Hickson charge and formerly from Trinidad gave the eulogy. Mrs. Alma Langford, Mrs. Mary Thomson, Mrs. Olive Thomson and Mary Lou, Exeter and Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde attended the decoration service Sunday evening at Kirkton United Church. It is the first time in eleven years that the service had to be held indoors on account of the weather. They all went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Rodd in Woodham after the service, for a visit, to look at pictures and a cup of tea. Miss Joanne Hodgert went on a field trip 1979 an ad- venture in Canadian Studies to Newfoundland. It was sponsored as a service to education by the London Free Press, London, and Abitibi Paper Company Ltd. Toronto. It was from June 22 to 29. Mrs. Mac Hodgert and Mrs. William Rohde at- tended the Craft Show at Arc Industries Dashwood on Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Snow and Michelle, Exeter and Mr. and Mrs. Barry E, Miller and Rebecca spent the holiday week-end camping at Bayfield. Mrs. Glen Rohde had a birthday party Saturday in honour of Tammy's fourth birthday which was on the second of July. Several friends attended. A humorous skit "Kitchen Talk" with Mrs. Ray Cann, Mrs. Murray Dawson, Mrs. Rick Parker, and Mrs. Murray Dawson taking part. Mrs. Rick Parker read a well worded address and Cheryl Cann and Joyce Cunnington pulled in a decorated love boat filled with gifts which were placed in the canoe where the bride could reach them. A lovely decorated hat was made by the groom's mother Mrs. Harold Knight and the bride's aunt Mrs. Art Heard with the bows and ribbons which wrapped the gifts, After opening the gifts Carolyn thanked everyone and invited them to her open house July 8 and also to her reception. All joined in singing "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow". Mrs. Dawson then gave a humorous reading. Cake, ice-cream, tea, coffee and juice were then served which brought an enjoyable evening to a close. Personals Elimville met with Thames Road Sunday morning for the regular church service. Mr. Ross Hargreaves told the children a story and Rev. D.L. Howlett B. TH. of the Canadian Bible Society London was the guest speaker. He told us this was the 75th year of the Bible Society. A free copy of the word of God is given to each namese family coming to Canada. The Bible Society also would like used stamps. One of them is to close blinds or drapes on the sunny side to keep the heat out and the coolness in. Another is to turn off your lights and television when they're not in use.
