RECORDS FIDDLING ALBUM * John Wurm of Exeter, a fiddler with the popular country
and western group Roger Quick and the Rainbows has just recently recorded his own album of
fiddling music. The album's name is derived from the first song on the record which Wurm
composed. T-A photo
John Wurm of Exeter a
fiddler with the popular
country group Roger Quick
and the Rainbows has just
released his own album of
fiddle music.
The album title "John A.
Wurm, Fiddlin'round" was
recorded this past winter at
the Quick residence near
Parkhill.
Featured are 13 fiddling
tunes including the title
track "Fiddlin'round"
which was composed by
Wurm.
The record came about as
a result for several requests
which Wurm had received
while playing at dances with
Quick and his group.
The Exeter resident said
he was hesitant at first to
make the recording "but
Roger said it's time you
made an album".
The student in the
architectural design
program at Fanshawe
College in London said he
tried for something distinc-
tive in a fiddle recording
with a good mix of "fast
stuff and waltzes".
Wurm began playing the
fiddle about four years ago
when picked up a violin
which had been in the family
for a number of years.
Exeter resident Hank
Green helped Wurm when he
was learning to play the fid-
dle and provided him with
his first half-size violin.
Over the years, the late

Achievement Day for the
Lucan 4-H Groups will be
held at Poplar Hill Memorial
Park, Saturday, July 28
commencing at 1 p.m.
Roll call for the evening
was "name a friend you have
visited recently" and the
motto "There is no burden
that is not lightened by
sharing it" was beautifully
given by Mabel Froats.
Wyn Jolliffe announced the
founding of a "Helping
Hands" group within The
C.W.L. hopefully to become
a community group.
The Institute will recess
for the summer, to meet
again, Wednesday, Sep-
tember 19, except for the
County Rally when it is
hoped all members will
attend.

er AKWOODINN.,
Mike Hodgert, Nelson Howe
and Willis Desjardine have
helped the student who has
four months left to complete
for his diploma from
Fanshawe.
He began to play for Quick
on a part-time basis about a
year and a half ago and just
completed his first full year
of playing with the band.
Wurm said he has really
enjoyed his association with
the group and his associa-
tion with some of the stars
of the Grand Old Opry who
he has met while playing for
the group.
Among the country stars
which he knows quite well
are Minnie Pearl, Tom T.
Hall, Bill Anderson and Lit-
tle Jimmy Dickens.
Quick and the Rainbows
are booked every weekend
well into 1980 including a
weekend trip this October
with the Grand Old Opry to
Winnipeg, Bismark, North
Dakota and Duluth,
Minnesota.
Asked about the problem
of combining an education
with a musical career,
Wurm said he finds at times
there's just not enough time
in the day but that "the
school work always come
first".
The possibility of a full
time career in music has
crossed his mind but he said
there are many good
fiddlers around.
One would think fiddling
and school would be enough
for the young man but Wurm
also does design and map
work part-time, looks after
two hogs at Quick's farm
and is into antique car and
violin collecting.
To date there are eight
violins scattered around his
parent's William street
residence.
