HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2007-12-20, Page 51Whether it’s a holiday table or a
bookcase, creating a festive display
depends upon a number of things
and can be as easy as one, two, three.
“When putting together a display
odd numbers, usually three or five,
but seven would work on a bigger
area,” said Karen Youngblut of
Luann’s.
Other factors to consider is that
there be different heights in the
grouping with a “three-finger
spacing” between each item in small
groups. Large ones will depend on
the size of the surface area, said
Youngblut.
Obviously colour co-ordination
needs to be taken into consideration
as well.
For a coffee table Youngblut
suggests placing a large item in the
centre, then staggering the others out
from high to low on either side.
Weaving ‘greens’in and around ties
the grouping together.
While five items would probably
work best on a coffee table,
Youngblut suggests then using three
on the end tables. The arrangements
need not be identical, but would be
best carrying through a common
theme or anchored by one piece that
serves as a focal point to match in
each spot.
Though plenty of holiday spirit is
nice, Youngblut cautions against
getting too carried away with the
decorations. “Not every available
space needs to be done. You don’t
want so much that it looks cluttered
and people don’t know what to look
at.”
While greens can be a nice
addition to an arrangement,
Youngblut said they’re not always
necessary. “On a smaller area for
example, greens may overtake the
space, whereas a larger space needs
to be grounded.”
While candles work well in table
displays, Youngblut reminds that
safety comes first. “Be mindful of
