The Citizen, 2007-12-20, Page 14Holidays before the Christmas holidays was the idea a few locals had. Returning from a trip to Puerta Viarta, Mexico is Ed McClure. He reports that his resort was beautiful, the food was great, the weather was perfect. He did plenty of four- wheeling and reports a great time. A couple of Walton-area men also have returned from a week’s vacation to Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic. Away for a good time were Gary McNichol and Bruno Braecker. They enjoyed their week’s getaway with great food, weather and the resort was wonderful. A group of young people, including Andy Pethick, also returned from a week’s vacation at Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic, the week after Gary and Bruno. They had a blast was their description of the trip. They rented dirt bikes and travelled over 200 kms. exploring the area around Puerta Plata. Unfortunately, the news of an approaching hurricane almost dampened their vacation but it changed course and a day of tropical rain storm was all they received. They had a great time. All these vacationers were headed to warmer climates and I guess the same can be said for Ray McClure. He’s arrived from Forrestburg, Alberta which is northeast of Edmonton where the temperatures have been substantially lower than here in southwestern Ontario. Ray is here to spend a couple of weeks catching up with family and celebrating Christmas. The McClure Christmas, usually held at Kinburn Hall, was cancelled due to weather Sunday. Taking a day trip were Sherry McCall and Cindy Holland. They were off to Toronto to attend a taping of the City Line TV show. According to the folks watching, Sherry was a lucky one to be having a makeover hairstyling. At the end of the show, a shorter styled Sherry was presented and then she tried to show the hosts how to dance. That was interesting to be sure. I haven’t seen the new “do” on Sherry but now you will know where she had it done. Another day trip to Toronto was experienced by Evelyn Blake andCarolyn Sommerville. They took abus trip to the Royal AlexandraTheatre to see Dirty Dancing.Evelyn agreed that the show asfantastic. The music, the dancing, the way the scenes and stagechanged, all was great. Also on the bus were BonnieGlanville and her sisters. They also enjoyed the show. Ken Dalton reports that the week of deer hunting was too much – too much snow that was. The gang managed to get 12 deer after a lot of tough slugging through the snow. Oh well, there’s always next year!Pat Dalton hosted her annualladies take a break afternoon lastweek. Many of the neighbours andfriends attended to enjoy coffee, hotcider and Christmas goodies alongwith an afternoon of relaxing andchatting. What a nice Christmas ideato share time with friends.Congratulations to Kevin and Heather Dunbar on the birth of a daughter last week. Destiny Raine arrived to the delight of big brother Dawson. This makes the count even for Grandpa and Grandma,, Jim and Evelyn Blake with two grandsons and two granddaughters. Great-grandparents, George and MarieBlake are excited of course. The barn on Nelson Ryan’s farm isbeing taken down. Bit by bit it isbeing dismantled.Celebrating Christmas at theWalton Hall on Saturday was theHeibein family. They enjoyedChristmas dinner and a nice time visiting with their families. The Thamer Christmas was to be held on Sunday at Walton Hall but again due to weather it was cancelled. There were many people out enjoying concerts on the weekend, in Brussels and in London. The Scott Woods Concert atMelville Presbyterian Church hadover 300 in attendance. Howard andAudrey Hackwell report that it wasfantastic. The music, thestepdancing and everything was justgreat.Travelling a little farther toLondon to the Keith Urban concert at the JLC were numerous folks from the area. Keith and Gloria Wilbee and Pat and Don Dalton were there as well as Marlene,Anita, Sara and Heather Little who saw Mike and Nicole Noble there. PAGE 14. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2007. A child is born The Christmas Story, a cherished one, provided the framework for Grey Central Public School’s production of The Christmas Guest earlier this week at their Christmas concert. The play started there, but soon was brought into the present day and instead of an innkeeper, there was a shopkeeper who was at the door. From left: Nikki Van Brugge and Michael Gulutzen.
