child abuse and inappropriate
touching, we have backed away
from touching even more. We need
to realize that healthy, appropriate
and meaningful touch is very
important.
The second thing Jesus does was
to say “I am willing, be clean.” The
spoken word is powerful. How many
of us do not remember something
said years ago by someone else, a
compliment or words said in anger?
Jesus said to the leper, “I am
willing, be clean!” Those words
were so precious to that man and I
am sure he was bubbling over with
what God had done for him.
Our families need to be places
where we speak words of blessing to
one another. Solomon recognized
the power of words were like
throwing water into our faces that he
wrote, “Death and life are in the
power of the tongue” (Prov. 18:21).
I believe this is a huge problem in
our culture. We do not compliment
our children or others because we do
not want to inflate their ego. One
man was asked why he never said “I
love you” to his spouse. His
comment was “I said ‘I love you’
when we got married. That has not
changed, and if it does, I will tell
you.” He withheld his verbal
blessing to his wife and she was
starving for the verbal affirmation of
being loved.
This one miracle by Jesus gives us
a picture of God’s kingdom restored.
It gives a picture of being home, the
way God intended home to be. Let
us remember in the midst of the
Christmas festivities and all the
home comings that this is just a taste
of home the way God meant it to be.
The important thing is whether or
not we receive this King and if our
hearts have prepared room for him.
