The Citizen, 2007-12-13, Page 11Continued from page 10visit with daughter Sherry andhusband Eric Delay. They toured through the windingroads of Great Smokey NationalPark and saw plenty of wildlife
including deer and a couple of
bears. They enjoyed 20°C weather
and shopped until they dropped.
When Judy Emmrich was telling
me about her and Clint’s trip to
Florida, the common thread was
again the phrase “they shopped ’til
they dropped.”
They were one week at Indian
Shores on the Gulf side and a week
at Daytona. They checked out lots
of flea markets.
Clint took a day and went deep-
sea fishing. They also saw the space
shuttle take off which was
“magnificent”.
They returned on Sunday evening
and woke up to that nasty
snowstorm on Monday morning.
Wow – that’s an adjustment.
Another group of travellers have
returned home from a fabulous
vacation to the southern USA,
including California and Nevada.
The four women taking in this
fabulous vacation were Betty
Campbell and daughter Julie, Isabel
Wheeler and Jane Hall.
Our sympathies are extended to
the Knight families – Jack, Jim,
Willis and Leslie of our area, on the
passing of their sister Roberta.
Many of the family attended a
memorial service in Toronto last
week.
Get-well wishes to Jerry Zwep
who underwent surgery on his ankle
on Friday. He will be laid up for
awhile.
Having knee surgery last week
was Scott McDonald.
We will wish him a speedy
recovery.
Welcome home to Margery
Huether who has been in Florida for
the past six weeks. She is home to
enjoy the Christmas holidays.
Paul Kirkby from Ottawa and
hunting pal Brian from Toronto
were home last weekend.
Unfortunately with bad weather
coming in last Monday, they left
again Sunday to avoid the storm, so
had no chance to hunt.
A gathering by some of the
community folks for Kathleen
Williamson was held at Walton Inn
on Friday morning. A special cake
by Audrey Hackwell and a small
monetary gift was given to Kathleen
to use for something for her new
home down the road.
A little address was also read by
Audrey during the get-together with
Marjory Humphries, Helen
Williamson, B.J. DeJong, Jeanne
Kirkby, Anne Ryan, Patty Banks,
Joyce Marcuccio and Brad
Morrison attending.
Many community members will
remember the Pollard family who
lived on the corner of Brussels Line
and St. Michael’s Road for many
years. Sadly, Annie Pollard passed
away on the weekend. She had
celebrated her 90th birthday on
Nov. 21 and had been residing at the
nursing home in Listowel.
She and husband George had
lived in the Brussels area for many
years, operated a chainsaw shop,
near the now liquor store area,
before moving to the
Listowel/Monkton area.
They had five children who live
mostly around the Listowel area.
Our sympathies are extended to the
Pollard family.
Returning from a family vacation
at the Mayan Riveria, Mexico is the
Stadelmann clan. John and Sheron
Stadelmann with daughters Rhonda
and husband Joe Ryan and son
Johnny, and daughter Jennifer andhusband Dean and girls Ann andAshley from B.C. as well as otherrelatives from Lucknow andListowel area gathered at a resortfor a week of family fun, sun and
relaxation.
They report wonderful weather
and a great time.
Speaking of a great time, I,
myself had a wonderful weekend
away in Toronto with my girls.
Celebrating my birthday in grand
style with me were my daughter
LeeAnn Konarski, our son’s
girlfriend Alicia Dick and our Kelly
McDonald of Toronto. LeeAnn did
the driving and we were off to
downtown Toronto, where Kelly
lives in residence and where we
stayed on Saturday night. Only a
block from the Eaton Centre, we
went shopping for the afternoon,
then enjoyed a delicious dinner out
at the Pickle Barrel Restaurant.
After dinner, we went to the City
Hall skating rink where we watched
the skaters and enjoyed the music
on stage.
It was Cavalcade of Lights and a
fantastic fireworks to music display
was done that lasted about 20
minutes.
Returning to Kelly’s we settled
into a wonderful view of the CN
Tower light display. It changes a
variety of colours during the display
with red and green being the
finishing Christmas colours.
Sunday morning after breakfast
there was a little more shopping,
then the highlight of the weekend –
going to the stage performance of
Dirty Dancing at the RoyalAlexandra Theatre. It was great andthe familiar songs resounded in thetheatre. The performers were great, but nobody moves like PatrickSwayze from the original movie.
It was awesome and a wonderful
girls away weekend. We said
goodbye to Kelly and we were off
home following the show and had a
clear drive home.
The Morris-Turnberry Christmas
party for the employees and council
was held at the Wingham Golf and
Country Club Friday evening. A
delicious dinner was enjoyed by all,
then remarks and some thank yous
were made. Councillors Edna
McLellan and Mark Beaven then
had everyone enjoy a hilarious
game of “Christmas” with everyone
receiving a prize. A cute Christmas
video computer presentation was
shown by Kim Johnston and it was
a very nice evening for all.
It is the season of hope and
goodwill and Fred and Heidi
McClure had their chance to
demonstrate just that last week. At
mid-evening a frantic knock came
to the door and upon answering it an
excited woman entered screaming
there had been an accident. After
calming the young woman it was
learned a flat tire on her vehicle was
the “accident”.
Of course, Fred offered to help
and Heidi invited the rest of the
travellers to come in. After the tire
was fixed they were on their way in
no time. It was Fred and Heidi’s
Christmas deed for 2007.
Early Christmas gifts were given
away to Robert Shaddick, Val
Shortreed, Judy Emmrich and Mike
Boven from the Walton Inn last
week. Maybe this week will be your
lucky week.
Home for a pre-Christmas visit
were Patricia and Sebastian
Andredas with Howard and Audrey
Hackwell. After their departure it
was Pamela Hackwell’s turn to dropin for a visit.I guess the girls are checking upon the two of them after Howard’sspell of bad health. Both are feelingbetter, they say and all ready for
Christmas too!
Birthday greetings go out to Mike
and Mark Nolan, Liz Roth, Lorraine
Blake, Glenda Morrison, JohnGlauser, Darian Fritz, EvanDucharme and Marg Whitmore.Evelyn Blake, Heather Dunbarand Lisa Stevenson travelled toLondon to help celebrate Lorraine
Blake’s birthday last week. They
enjoyed a girl’s day together and
had a nice time.
THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2007. PAGE 11. Great Smokey National Park on tour
There was a name inadvertently
omitted from the story “County not
hiring Maddox” on the front page of
last week’s issue of The Citizen.
Morris-Turnberry reeve Dorothy
Kelly was among those councillors
who had voted in favour of hiring a
meeting investigator rather than
using the services of the Ontario
Ombudsman.
We apologize for the omission.
