NEWS
FROM WALTON
What a wonderful evening the
December crew held for over 70
guests at the Walton Duff’s United
Church Women’s Christmas
evening.
The crew included Gloria Wilbee,
Melva Fraser, Heidi McClure and
Suzanne Studhalter along with
Toonies for Friendship leaders
Dianne McCallum and Judy Lee
doing the planning.
The evening began with a
delicious turkey dinner served by
Grace Campbell Catering.
There were many comments and
accolades to be passed on to Nita
and Laverne McClure for the
wonderful and gorgeous job of
decorating the area with a rustic
backdrop, greenery, snowmen, table
pieces.
Gloria Wilbee introduced the
minister, Rev. Sandra Yule, and
presented her with a poinsettia and
the engraved sign with her name to
be added to the sign outside the
church. (Murray Dennis placed the
sign on Monday morning).
Gloria then led the singing of
grace and all enjoyed the meal.
Following this the group sang a
few Christmas carols led by Margery
Huether and Phyllis Mitchell.
The evening featured a fashion
show with the fashions of Marita’s
Fashion Boutique of Clinton. Owner
Marita Kochis was introduced and
described that we would be seeing
fashions suitable for casual, business
and evening wear.
The models were Bonnie
Glanville, Gloria Wilbee, Marie
McGavin, Heidi McClure, Annalies
Ringgenberg, Suzanne Studhalter,
Melva Fraser, Cindy Poland and
Patty Banks.
There were many beautiful outfits
shown and most of them are by
Canadian designers.
Door prizes provided by Marita
were won by Sandra Yule and Linda
Elliott.
A gift of flowers were presented to
Marita on behalf of the UCW.
There was also a special visit by
two of the Spice girls singing group,
dropping by with some special
fashions of their own. To describe
them would be inadequate I’m sure,
but I will say that both of the girls
needed to shave before their next
performance.
It was a great way to end the
evening with light heartedness and
laughter. Everyone appreciated the
efforts of the girls (Keith Wilbee and
Neil McGavin).
The evening also saw many items
to be donated to the Women’s
Shelter.
