The Citizen, 2007-12-06, Page 6The most exciting news
around Walton was the
fantastic Well Wishing
Christmas Variety Concert at
the Walton Hall on Sunday.
The weather probably kept
the turnout on the lower side
but the more than 60 people in
attendance certainly
appreciated the talents of our
local performers.
MC for the afternoon was
Margaret McInroy, who made
the trip from near Kincardine.
The afternoon show began
with the Mitchell violinists
including Phyllis, Jamie and
Sean playing the Christmas
Polka and Jingle Bells.
Glenda Morrison
accompanied them on the
piano.
The talented stepdancing
students
of Sherry McCall, Miranda
Campbell, Regan Ryter, Lexi
and Delayna Smith,
performed a reel. Gloria
Wilbee sang Silver Bells and
Frosty the Snowman.
Young Heidi Bachert
displayed her talents playing,
Away in a Manger on the
violin and O’ Little Town of
Bethlehem on the piano.
Another talented young lady
Meagan Campbell played,
Jolly Old St. Nicholas on the
piano then sang, All I Want
for Christmas is My Two
Front Teeth.
Sean Mitchell played a
violin solo, Once in RoyalDavid’s City then was joinedby Phyllis and Jamie to play,We Wish You a MerryChristmas.A shy Jacob Flood who’sfive, offered to sing, JingleBells for the crowd. Anothermember of the Bachertfamily, Devin, played, Awayin the Manger on the piano.
Violinists Murray and Sherry
McCall along with Doreen
Cardiff at the piano and
guitarists Graeme Craig and
Gloria Wilbee, played some
toe-tapping pieces including
Maple Sugar, a medley of
Smash the Window and
Chinese Breakdown, and
Silent Night.
The third member of the
Bachert
family, Hailey Bachert
played the flute beautifully
for Good King Wenceslas.
Graeme Craig’s solo of C is
for the Christ Child was
wonderful as was the duet
with Gloria Wilbee, Oh
Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.
Brother and sister, Meagan
and Matthew Campbell, sang
the cute number, I’m Getting
Nothing For Christmas to
everyone’s delight.
The Walton Hall Board and
Walton Sports Club talent for
the afternoon was the altered
rendition of the Twelve Days
of Christmas. Instead of
Christmas it was the Twelve
Days of Water.
The new lyrics for the song
were given to Margaret
McInroy on her arrival at 1:30
for her to learn and sing and
she was accompanied by
Glenda Morrison. Hall board
members Chris Lee, Judy Lee
and Jo-Ann McDonald and
sport club members Gloria
Wilbee and Val Shortreedwere the actors who displayedthe uses of water sincedrilling the well at WaltonHall. The afternoon wouldn’t becomplete without a Christmassing-along led by MarieMcGavin and of course anappearance by Santa who toldthe children he was just
whipped with all the work he
was doing.
Children sat on his knee and
told him their Christmas
wishes before Santa was off.
It was a great afternoon
organized by Jo-Ann
McDonald with help from
decorating team Audrey and
Howard Hackwell and Judy
Lee.
Refreshments of hot and
cold apple cider, coffee and
cookies were provided by Jo-
Ann, Judy, Kathleen
Williamson, Marg Bennett,
Phyllis Mitchell and Barb
Durell. At the end of the day a totalof $596 was raised towardsWalton’s share of the cost ofthe well, which will serveboth the Community Hall andball park building when bothare completed.Approximately $1,500 hasbeen raised towards theneeded $4,200 of the
community share. Huron East
is paying the other 50 per cent
of the costs of the new well.
The well was drilled about a
month ago and now the bill is
in, so fundraising is a high
priority. Donations will be
gratefully accepted from
those who were unable to
attend the variety concert by
any hall or sports club
member.
Thanks to all who did make
it out and enjoy the afternoon
by the talented community
members.
