ting.
THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2007. PAGE 13.
In hospital is Marie Coutts. She
underwent surgery in Goderich and
is now in Clinton hospital.
Returning home from Stratford
hospital following surgery is
Doreen Hackwell. We wish both
ladies best wishes and speedy
recoveries.
Heal fast wishes go out to David
Robinson who has suffered a
broken ankle. He is the teenaged
son of Scott and Jeannette
Robinson.
We understand a slight mishap
involving a four-wheeler was the
cause of the injury.
A special celebration was held by
the Wilbee family to celebrate Ian
Wilbee’s 80th birthday.
The family of Carol, with
husband Murray Henderson and
sons Scott and Steven and friend
Jacquelin, son of Keith and wife
Gloria and son Brian gathered at the
Fireside Cafe to enjoy a family
dinner.
Grandsons Kevin and Mark of
Ottawa called Grandpa to wish him
happy birthday.
Also a big happy birthday from
all your Walton friends, Ian.
Celebrating a different milestonebirthday was Florence Machan. Thechildren Linda, Vicki and Paulalong with their families planned a“surprise” birthday party forFlorence to celebrate her 70thbirthday. The Machan and Dawsonfamilies gathered at the SportsmanClub in Wingham to have an
enjoyable afternoon.
We also wish Florence happy
birthday.
The Walton Hall held another
successful roast beef dinner on
Sunday. There were over 75 hungry
diners who attended to help the
Walton Hall board and Walton area
sports club raise funds for the new
well. The well has been drilled and
is all hooked up and running
smoothly. Tests and inspections
have been completed and were in
tip-top shape.
The next fundraising function is
the Christmas concert on Sunday
featuring some old and some new,
some young and some mature,
some singing, some dancing, some
comedy and of course Santa and
some treats.
Everyone is welcome and
donations are gratefully accepted
towards the well fund.
A sad event on the weekend saw
the loss of the Brodhagen
Community Centre to fire. Reports
are that it was completely destroyed
on Saturday evening.
The Brodhagen Hall has been a
part of many Walton-area people’s
lives in the past. Dances were a very
popular drawing card for many, and
I know I’ve attended many buckand does and wedding receptionsthere. Two women at the Walton Halldinner report their weddingreceptions were there, ValerieShortreed and Heidi McClure. My own family reunion has beenheld at the Brodhagen Hall for 45years. Ball tournaments, the annual
chicken barbecue, card parties and
much more have been held and
celebrated at this meeting place for
the community.
It’s a devastating loss for the
community of Brodhagen and its
residents.
An interesting story from Canada
Company Road has been going on
for a little while. There have been
tales about a wild pig wandering the
neighbourhood and being spotted in
many different yards. I myself saw
the animal around Elliott
Hackwell’s barn.
Upon investigating with some
simple questions, I have learned
that the pig spends a lot of time at
Elliott’s barn with the cow and calf.
Elliott feeds it regularly, but every
once in a while the pig goes for a
walk and visits the neighbours.
The origin of the pig is unknown
but I assume the man that feeds the
pig and houses the pig, should getto claim the pig.Well, it’s all over. SaskatchewanRoughriders are the proud winnersof the Grey Cup. The football loversfrom this house were off to Torontoto partake of the festivities andfootball game this past weekend.Heading to Toronto were Rickand Scott McDonald, Jason
Konarski, Pat DeJong, Jim
McDonald and Brad and Steve
Knight. Flying in from Vancouver
was Neil McDonald to attend the
game. He will now spend some
time visiting Leona McDonald and
family.
Abby McGavin is still collecting
winter coats, mitts, hats, etc. for the
homeless in Toronto. Items can be
dropped off at McGavin’s or at
Walton United Church.
The White Gift Sunday at Duff’s
will be this Sunday, Dec. 2.
Birthday wishes go out to Carl
McCallum, Valerie Shortreed, Ian
Wilbee, Donna McClure, Linda
Gingerich, Linda McDonald, Craig
Gillis, Jo-Ann McDonald, Nick
Zwep and Faye McDonald.
The Ontario Early Years program
which runs Wednesday mornings at
Duff’s United Church saw only one
mommy and baby at class.
The free classes are open to
caregivers and children up to the
age of five. It’s a great way to meet
other parents, and for children to
have fun learning techniques and
sharing and fun. It’s an opportunity
for new moms to meet other new
moms and talk and learn about life
with a new baby.
Caregivers
encouraged
to attend
