Palmerston travelled to Blyth on
Friday, Nov. 23 to play an action-
filled game against the Blyth Midget
Icedogs.
Blyth’s centre forward Brent Drost
won the opening faceoff and had a
breakaway at Palmerston’s net. The
ball hit the goalie on his helmet and
bounced away. Winger Mike Hogan
picked up the ball, but the
Palmerston goalie stopped it, then
tipped the ball into the net.
This goal occurred just 10 seconds
into the first period of the game.
Blyth had two men in the penalty
box for roughing and tripping later in
the first period, but were able to keep
Palmerston from scoring during the
powerplay.
Frustration was in the air when
Palmerston and Blyth each had a
powerplay in the second period, but
neither team was able to score. The
game ended with a 1-0 victory for
the Icedogs.
With a few minutes of ice-time
left, both teams practised some
overtime. There were some great
shots on net and almost another goal
for Blyth, unfortunately the ball hit
the corner post.
Blyth forwards showed some good
ball control and wisely used their
defence to work the ball up the ice
and around their opponents, said
coaches. The forwards played well
taking some good shots on net, and
definitely outshooting their
opponents.
Blyth’s defensive lines played very
strongly during this game doing their
very best to limit the shots on net and
get the ball out of their defensive
end.
Defence players Kurtis Kolkman,
Travis Roetcisoender, Denny
Lalonde, Brandon Hakkers, Brendon
Boven and Brett Vanestte put forth
an excellent effort out on the ice for
this game.
Goalie Graham Bedard had a great
game and earned a shutout for Blyth.
The Icedogs will play Seaforth
next Friday night in Blyth.
On ice
It was exciting hockey action in Blyth this past weekend as
teams competed in the annual Midget Silver Stick
tournament. Arran-Elderslie took on Lucknow Saturday and
squeaked out a 5-4 victory. (Vicky Bremner photo)
