PAGE 18. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2007. The Londesborough Happy Gang Seniors held their November card party at the Londesborough Community Hall on Friday, Nov. 9. There were 16 1/2 tables of euchre players that evening. The winning couple, with 79 points, was Harold and Doris McClinchey. Bob and Pauline had the second highest score of 77 points. With 74 points, Stuart Wilson and George Townsend claimed third. Roy and Marie Krauter successfully played six lone hands. The group’s next card party will be held on Friday, Dec. 14. Apparently, at the club’s October euchre night, someone went home with the wrong jacket. One of the Londesborough ladies is missing her fall jacket and would exchange for the jacket that was left at the hall. No one at the November card night seemed to recognize the coat that was left. Perhaps anyone who attended in October might check their closet. Contact a Londesborough senior member if you happen to discover the mistake. United Church to set up mitten tree Hullett P.S. hosts 2008 kindergarteners Co-op student works at relaxation Local Lions welcome new member The senior choir offered a familiar anthem at Londesborough United Church on Sunday, Nov. 18, Just a Closer Walk With Thee. Rev. Pat Cook began the children’s time at the front with a passage from Romans, “We are not to be like the world; we are to be like God.” Using a piece of play-doh, she showed the children how a golf ball and a piece of Lego left impressions on the play-doh. In our lives, people, books, television, etc. can influence our lan- guage, actions and thinking. Children need to be sure that the things and people who come close to us are making the right kind of impression on their lives. Remember that Jesus is life’s best example of how to life. Words, Words, Words.. was the title of Rev. Cook’s message to the adults that morning. Her text came from Mark 4:13-20. In the previous verses Jesus told the parable of the sower. These verses called the para- ble of the soils, speaks of the power of the word of God. Jesus through his actions and words, shares God’s love. It is His hope that like the seeds sown on good ground, His love will be shown to the world through people. Congregations, too, should take the words of Christ and apply them to their activities and outreach. Not all seeds will germinate. People must continue to live the faith in their world and trust that the seeds of love and actions they sow will bring results. The session of Londesborough United Church will meet briefly fol- lowing the Nov. 25 service. The mitten tree is now up at the rear of the sanctuary ready to be dec- orated with mitts, scarves, slippers, etc. to be given to the Huron County Christmas Bureau. Lions Clubs worldwide are notedfor their humanitarian and commu-nity works. This is part of the LionsInternational mandate. Followingthat mandate is the LondesboroughLions Club. Happy Gang plays euchre NEWS FROM LONDESBORO On Wednesday, Nov. 14, 17 timid children attended Hullett Central Public School for the first time to register for kindergarten 2008. Numbers like this should have a bearing on keeping our school open. The poinsettia is symbolic of Christmas. If you are considering one or more to include in your holi- day decorating, call the school. The pupils of Grade 8 are selling them as a fundraiser for their year-end trip to Camp Celtic. Delivery will be made on Dec. 6. This week brings the cookies bites to a close. They’ve been fun to think about and relate to. Perhaps come a situation down the road, one of them will influence a decision of yours. Cookie Bite # 19 — Open-minded means, I’ve never seen cookies like that before, but, I’ll try one. Cookie Bite #20 — Regret means I really wish I didn’t eat so many cookies. Cookie Bite #21 — Content means sitting on the steps just you, me and a couple of cookies. Cookie Bite #22 — Wise means I used to think I knew everything about cookies, but now I realize I know only one teeny chip’s worth. KRISTEN MCARTER The business of relaxation It may seem like a nice relaxing job, or so it sounds, but it can also be stressful if you knew what went on behind the scenes at a place like Solace. I’m completing my co-op place- ment at Solace on Turnberry, a spa in Brussels. Massages are relaxing for you, but for us, it’s not. It’s tough having to make the beds between clients, keeping caught up with the laundry, doing the dishes, sweeping and making sure everything is clean. This placement has given me the opportunity to experience behind the scenes what it’s like to be a massage therapist and see if it’s what I really want to do in life. I’ve watched massages being done and it’s really quite interesting how the therapist uses their hands and body. It’s not what people would expect. I’m really enjoying co-op so far and I know that Solace co- workers really appreciate my help as well.
